Appreciation of works

Appreciation of the works by the author: Feng Qingcheng

The author Jia Dao (779-843), also spelled Lang Xian (阆仙), was a native of Fanyang,Youzhou (present-day Zhuozhou, Hebei) in the Tang Dynasty. In his early years, he became a monk, with no roots, and called himself "JieshiShanren". After the vulgarity, repeatedly raised into the ranks of the first. He was the chief bookkeeper of the Yangtze River (present-day Pengxi, Sichuan), known as Jia Changjiang. His poems like to write about desolate and desolate situations, pay attention to the tempering of words and sentences, and work hard, and are known as "bitter bards". With the same name as Mengjiao, it is known as "suburban cold island thin".

The poem adopts an allegorical and question-and-answer writing style, including rich content such as environment, characters, and plot. The first sentence is the poet's inquiry, and the last three sentences write the boy's reply. Judging from the boy's three answers, the first sentence, "Matsushita asks the boy," should have implied the poet's three questions, but the last two questions were not shown. The poet went to the mountain to find the hermit who collected medicine for a living and saved the world, and the disciple who happened to meet the hermit was overjoyed, and asked: Is your master here? The boy replied: The master went to collect medicine. The poet felt that there was still a chance and asked again: Where did he go? The boy replied, "Only in this mountain." The poet was anxious and finally asked: Where in the mountains? The boy replied, "The clouds are deep and unknown." The poet was desperate and speechless.

The poet uses the boy's reply to depict a fairyland with deep and ethereal white clouds, high mountains and secluded, and free from the fireworks of the world. At the same time, the white clouds symbolize the lofty elegance and uncertainty of the hermit, and the cangsong metaphor for the wind and bone and longevity of the hermit, allowing the reader to imagine that this hermit should be a high-ranking person who has cultivated the Tao. Through this concise and undulating dialogue plot, the poet vividly and intriguingly depicts his search for people to meet but never meet, the anxiety and sorrow of the twists and turns, the admiration for the hermit, and the hermit's Taoist fairy style and the dust and the vulgarity.
