On May 12, Gangu County's 2024 Youth Science Popularization Activity was held in Gangu No. 1 Middle School. Huo Yanping, deputy county magistrate, presided over the meeting.
With the theme of "igniting the light of science and illuminating the dream of youth", Wei Zhiyi, a well-known expert from Gangu and a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lu Zhonglin, a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Chemistry of Beijing Normal University, were invited to carry out popular science lectures and discussions on "Laser Changes the World" and "The Charm of Chemistry".
The two professors deeply inspired the students with their vivid, scientific, gentle and powerful speeches and won bursts of applause. In the interactive exchange session, students actively participated, and the professor used easy-to-understand explanations to explain to the students and experience the charm of science.
Through the lectures, the spirit of scientists was transformed from abstract symbols into vivid stories of scientists, which effectively expanded students' knowledge horizons, improved students' scientific literacy, and stimulated their strong interest in approaching scientists, understanding the spirit of scientists, and establishing lofty ideals.
Members of the county education bureau, heads of relevant units, party organization secretaries and principals of high schools, and representatives of outstanding students in the first and second grades of high schools participated in the event.
