On May 12, with the roar of machinery, the exit of the Zhoujiachong Tunnel of Xiangjing Railway No. 1 of China Railway Bridge Bureau was successfully completed, laying a solid foundation for the follow-up to accelerate the construction of the main body and the beam. This is another major node since the inclined shaft of Zhoujiachong Tunnel was entered on August 14 last year, marking a major achievement in tunnel construction.

Zhoujiachong Tunnel is located in Xiangyang City, is a single-hole double-line tunnel, the total length of the tunnel is 2252 meters, the maximum buried depth is about 60 meters, the design speed is 350 kilometers per hour, the longest tunnel in the bid section, is the only passage for transporting beams, and is also one of the control projects of the whole line. At present, the tunnel excavation remains 430 meters, the inverted arch remains 706.8 meters, and the second lining remains 973 meters. The next step will be to focus on organizing the construction of the inclined shaft section, and plan to complete the construction of the tunnel by the end of July, and have the conditions for transporting beams by the end of August.

The geological conditions of the tunnel site area are complex, the tunnel entrance and exit sections are shallow, the tunnel body is mostly placed in the overburden and bedrock weathering, the rock mass stability is poor, the joint fracture is developed, and the construction risk is high. According to the technical person in charge of the site, in the face of the complex construction environment, all the project personnel overcame difficulties, on the one hand, they tried their best to improve the tunnel construction organization and arrangement, strengthen management measures, and on the other hand, strictly control safety and quality, maximize construction efficiency, and provide a strong guarantee for the smooth breakthrough of the tunnel exit to the inclined shaft section.

The Xiangjing Railway starts from Xiangyang City in the north and reaches Jingmen City in the south. The line connects the Zhengwan Railway under construction in the north and the Jingjing Railway and the high-speed railway along the Yangtze River in the south, and is an integral part of the "Hunan Channel", one of the main channels of the "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railways in the medium and long-term railway network planning. After the completion of this project, it will improve the comprehensive transportation system in central Hubei and greatly contribute to the economic development of the Jianghan Plain.
