Zhang Yi, founder of Liuli Workshop and the promoter of Taiwan's New Wave, died of illness

On November 1, according to Taiwan media reports, the famous director Zhang Yi died of illness at the age of 69. Liuli Workshop, the art institution he founded, also issued a statement confirming that Zhang Yi died of illness this morning, accompanied by his wife Yang Huishan and daughter Zhang Yuan, and the follow-up related matters were arranged.

It is reported that Zhang Yi co-founded the "Liuli Workshop" with his wife and "Golden Horse Film Queen" Yang Huishan in the past 30 years, and gradually faded out of the film industry after he was obsessed with the art of glass. In the past two years, he has been plagued by many problems with congenital immune function and kidneys, and recently died of blood transfusion infection after heart surgery and ineffective rescue in the intensive care unit for many days, which made all walks of life quite regretful.

Zhang Yi opened his popularity in 1979 for his serialized novel "Yuan", and then co-adapted the screenplay with Zhang Yongxiang to make a film of the same name, winning the best screenplay at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival; in 1982, he co-directed "The Story of Time and Yin" with Yang Dechang, Tao Dechen and Ke Yizheng, becoming one of the important promoters of Taiwan's New Wave films; after being promoted to director, he has created a number of classic films, and in 1984, the film "Yuqing Sister-in-law", adapted from Bai Xianyong's novel, was nominated for the Golden Horse Award for Best Film.

In 1985, Zhang Yi won the Golden Horse Award for Best Director for "I Lived My Life Like This", and won the Best Adapted Screenplay with his wife Xiao Sa at the time, and also let Yang Huishan win the Golden Horse Film, and the three were known as the "Iron Triangle". Later, the three of them jointly filmed "My Love", but he and Yang Huishan had a long-term relationship and parted ways with Xiao Sa. After he and Yang Huishan withdrew from the film industry, for 30 years, the focus was on the Liuli Workshop, and his works were internationally renowned, and even collected by well-known museums in the United States, Britain, France and other well-known museums.
