EA Motive reportedly wants to make a brand new Dead Space game

After the release of the Dead Space remake last January to critical acclaim, EA studio Motive spent months exploring ideas for a new franchise title, according to Bloomberg sources.

The studio is said to be particularly keen on making a brand new game rather than a remake of Dead Space 2, although both ideas are on the table. However, the project was never approved and was reportedly shelved back last spring due to disappointing sales of the remastered version.

This confirms Giant Bomb's claims earlier this week, when the company said plans to remake Dead Space 2 were shelved due to the failure of the first game to achieve commercialization. EA denied the publication's report. "We don't usually comment on rumors, but the story is baseless," a spokesperson told IGN.

The publisher announced this week that Motive will be joining the company's broader Battlefield development team.

The publisher says it will work with other EA studios DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to "build a Battlefield universe that spans connected multiplayer experiences and single-player games."

Motive is also currently working on the Iron Man game, having previously produced Star Wars: Squadrons of Wars.
