Face: Japan attacks electric vehicles in China and summarizes the problem of backwardness in the United States

author:Don't quit mixing

Unlike Japanese automakers in China, in the U.S., Japanese automakers have never commented on electric vehicles.

Japanese automakers are starting to lose customers in the U.S. market.

Due to the postponement of the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), loyal customers that Japanese automakers have cultivated over the years have slowly begun to switch to electric vehicles produced by other companies, especially electric car giant Tesla.

However, due to the rise in energy prices caused by geopolitics and the slow construction of supporting facilities for electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles provide a new growth point for Japanese automakers focusing on hybrid vehicles.

However, there is still no optimism in Japan about the slow transition to electric vehicles.

Competition between Honda, Toyota and Tesla

Data compiled in 2022 by Experian, the world's largest provider of personal credit reporting services, clearly reflects the shift in attitudes towards Nissan, and Experian conducts credit research related to car loans in the U.S. and other countries:

When Experian investigated the car sales of Japanese car companies, it was found that these customers were all VIPs of Japanese car companies in the past, and these customers turned to buy Tesla Edamame Y, and the models with the biggest losses were: Toyota RAV4, Lexus RX, Honda CR-V and Acura MDX. It took only two years for the Edamame Y to rank sixth in the U.S. sales chart, encroaching on a large number of Japanese car sales.

In a survey conducted in the spring of 2023 on the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, the best-selling electric vehicle of the American auto giant General Motors (GM), most of the additional customers used Toyota's "Prius".

In addition, other electric vehicles launched by Germany's Volkswagen, Ford and South Korea's Hyundai in the United States are also taking over the market from Japanese automakers.

"With sadness" go to the generic

"As a pioneer in the field of hybrid vehicles, Toyota is working to transition to electric vehicles. The American newspaper The New York Times has an article on September 10, 2023, about Nissan.

Toyota's own investigation of old customers has gathered some very shocking information.

"Due to Toyota's slow pace of introducing electric vehicles, I switched from the Prius to GM electric vehicles. Respondents said they "have always liked the good fuel efficiency and reliability of Toyota's hybrid vehicles," but "for those who like Toyota, it's sad, but there's no choice." ”

The survey results and reports reflect the popularity of Japanese cars in the U.S. market. However, that still doesn't stop Toyota from losing quite a few of its existing customers, as it doesn't have a product line for people who need electric vehicles.

Opportunities for hybrid vehicles

In the Sino-US trade war, the United States has been using higher tariffs and homeland security reasons to prohibit or control the entry of Chinese electric vehicles into the U.S. market. However, the development of electric vehicles in the United States is actually very rapid.

Compared to Japan, the substitution rate of electric vehicles is higher and the substitution rate is faster.

At the same time, sales of large-battery hybrid vehicles are also increasing.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, between April and June 2023, electric vehicles accounted for 6.7% of passenger car sales in the United States, while hybrid vehicles accounted for 7.2%. In 2020, they accounted for only 1% and 2% respectively, and both electric and hybrid vehicle sales have risen significantly over the past three years.

Toyota currently offers more than 20 hybrid models in the United States. These include the GT86, a best-selling model like the Highlander.

Toyota's electric and hybrid vehicle sales increased from approximately 59,000 units in the January-March 2020 period to approximately 185,000 units in the July-September 2023 period.

Honda's hybrid vehicles also saw significant growth, from about 11,000 units in the January-March 2020 period to about 81,000 units in the July-September 2023 period.

Realities have contributed to this growth, with rising oil prices and slow EV charging networks being the main reasons.

future

At this stage, the hybrid models of Japanese automakers have a richer lineup of hybrid models than those of domestic automakers.

Since we have to invest more in the development of hybrid than in China, we do not have an advantage in this direction.

However, electric vehicles will account for 29% of the North American car market by 2027, while hybrid vehicles are expected to account for 28%, according to forecasts from the U.S. research firm Standard & Poor's Global. Thereafter, electric vehicles are expected to grow steadily, while the market share of hybrid vehicles will decline year on year, with 70% of electric vehicles and 18% of hybrid vehicles expected by 2035.

Before the hydrogen energy vehicle can not be mass-produced, and solve the safety and cost of energy utilization, how to make use of our advantages in China, achieve a breakthrough in market share, and form China's own brand effect, is the key to whether we can really go abroad.

However, please take out your money and support the products you support, and don't attack domestic electric vehicles, our line is not wrong.
