Recently, the Amador Cruise Terminal in Panama, built by China Harbor, was officially opened. Pana President Ma Cortiso attended and presided over the opening ceremony.
Cortiso said that the Amador Cruise Terminal is Panama's first modern cruise home port in the Pacific region, located at the entrance of the Panama Canal, strategically located, and will become an important base for cruise rotation and passenger transit in Central and South America, enhancing Panama's competitive advantage as a "hub within a hub" in the Americas.
Covering an area of 88 hectares, the Amador Cruise Terminal project can accommodate large cruise ships with a capacity of 5,000 tourists, and adopts the "home port" operation model, which will bring considerable economic benefits to Panama's hotel, catering, tourism, transportation and other industries. In December 2023, the main body of the terminal was delivered and put into operation, and up to now, 105 cruise ships have successfully docked at the Amador Cruise Terminal, and the Liandao Causeway is also a famous tourist scenic spot in Panama, attracting at least 200,000 tourists to visit, bringing good economic benefits to Panama.
The Amador Cruise Terminal project is the first government tender project won by a Chinese company in Panama since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama in June 2017. The project is located on Peric Island, at the mouth of the Pacific Ocean of the Panama Canal, and the contents of the construction undertaken by China Harbor include cruise terminals, slope embankments, port land reclamation, revetments, etc., and cruise home port terminals, port office areas, etc. The construction of the terminal will help Panama become a tourism center in the Caribbean Rim and effectively promote the development of Panamanian tourism.
