On the afternoon of March 23, with the last ground wall reinforcement cage successfully entered the groove and completed the pouring, this marks the official opening of a new chapter in the foundation pit foundation reinforcement and excavation construction of this super project.

  At the Jiangnan construction site of the Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel of the China Communications Tunnel Bureau, two crawler cranes staged a wonderful "steel cage air dance" in the air like two dancers with tacit understanding. The huge Z-width steel cage, with an upper length of 40 meters and a weight of 75 tons, and a lower length of 29.5 meters and a weight of 55 tons, was steadily hoisted to the predetermined slot, successfully completing its mission.

  It is understood that the soil layer within the construction scope of the Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel is complex and changeable, and the bad soil quality such as sand and silt is endless, coupled with the shallow groundwater depth and high confined water head, it is like construction in the "geological labyrinth". The technical staff rose to the challenge, prepared a detailed construction plan, and also carried out strict training for the workers to ensure that every link is kept improving.

  The Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel has a total length of 39.07 kilometers, of which the tunnel section is 11.18 kilometers long. The outer diameter of the shield tunnel section reaches 16 meters, which is not only the longest underwater shield tunnel in China, but also known as the "first tunnel of the Yangtze River". The shield starts from the working shaft on the north side of the river in Haimen, Nantong City, crosses the Yangtze River all the way, and goes directly to the receiving shaft on the south side of the Yangtze River in Taicang, Suzhou City.
