Fan Xianghui, director of the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Lintong District, told reporters that Lintong pomegranate was introduced and planted by Zhang Qian of the Han Dynasty to the western region, which has a planting history of more than 2,000 years, and now the main planting variety is pure skin sweet, and the newly developed Lishan red Lintong pomegranate is very popular with consumers as soon as it is listed.
Lintong is the earliest planting place of pomegranate in China and one of the main pomegranate producing areas in the country, and is known as the "hometown of pomegranates". In October 2020, the Lintong pomegranate regional public brand was officially released, and the Lintong pomegranate has won the titles of "National Geographical Indication Protected Product" and "Geographical Indication of Chinese Agricultural Products", and was listed in the fifth batch of China's important agricultural cultural heritage list. In the next step, Lintong pomegranate will also use the profound historical and cultural heritage and endowment tourism resources to strengthen the pomegranate industry, promote the brand construction of Lintong pomegranate, broaden the sales channels of pomegranates, promote the prosperity and income of fruit farmers, and achieve the goal of "strong fruit industry, rich fruit farmers, and beautiful fruit towns".
The pomegranate planting area of Lintong District is more than 80,000 mu, with an annual output of more than 80,000 tons of high-quality pomegranates, a direct output value of 640 million yuan, and a comprehensive output value of 1.5 billion yuan. It has cultivated processing enterprises such as Dan ruoer, Qin figurines and red pomegranates, and 18 provincial and municipal well-known brands such as Baifu rui and Lin Tong. There are more than 60 pomegranate production and sales enterprises and professional cooperatives in the whole region, pomegranate growers have reached 8,200 households, and 15,000 people are employed, and pomegranates have become the "golden eggs" that lead the Lintong masses to increase their income and become rich.
