Beijing News (reporter Liu Huan) on September 26, the Beijing News reporter learned from the Hainan Provincial Market Supervision Bureau that the bureau recently organized sampling inspection of edible agricultural products, edible oils, oils and fats and their products a total of 344 batches, detected 6 batches of unqualified samples, of which 1 batch of "quantum" edible blended oil was detected banned substance ethyl maltol.

According to the sampling announcement, the "quantum" edible blended oil (1.8 liters /bottle, 2021/5/2) produced by the nominal Qionghai Kanglian Food Co., Ltd. and the detection value of ethyl maltol are 10110 μg/kg, and the National Standard for Food Safety And the Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2014) stipulates that ethyl maltol shall not be detected in edible vegetable oil. Qionghai Kanglian Food Co., Ltd. proposed re-inspection, and the re-inspection result was 7170μg/kg, which was still unqualified.

According to the Hainan Provincial Market Supervision Bureau, ethyl maltol is a flavor improver and flavor enhancer, which has the effect of harmonizing, improving and increasing the original aroma of food. Ethyl maltol exceeding the standard may be added by the producer and operator to increase the product phase or make up for the low quality of raw materials.
