Beijing News (reporter Zhang Mingxuan) Hebei Provincial Market Supervision and Administration Bureau announced the latest batch of food safety sampling inspections, a total of 17 batches of products are unqualified. Among them, 1 batch of "Suixiangfu" edible plant blending oil and 1 batch of "Jixiangyuan" sunflower seed original aromatic edible plant blending oil were detected as banned spice ethyl maltol.
According to the sampling notice, the "Suixiang Fu" edible plant blend oil (non-GMO) (5 liters/barrel, 2020/4/21) produced by Fuzhong Grain and Oil Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Fuzhong Grain and Oil") in Jize County, Hebei Province, was detected with a prohibited spice ethyl maltol with a detected value of 54.8 μg/kg.
According to the data, ethyl maltol is a flavor enhancer, according to the "National Standard for Food Safety" (GB 2760-2014) stipulates that the project can not be detected in vegetable oils and fats.
On the afternoon of December 15, the Beijing News reporter called Fuzhong Grain and Oil, and the staff said that they did not know what caused the unqualified sampling inspection, and would call back after the inquiry, but as of press time, they had not replied.
In addition, the "Ji Xiangyuan" sunflower seed original fragrance edible plant blending oil (5 liters/barrel, 2020/4/1) produced by The nominal Hebei Neiqiu Xiangdong Agricultural and Sideline Products Processing Co., Ltd. was detected to contain the banned spice ethyl maltol, with a detected value of 198 μg/kg.
For the reasons for the unqualified sampling inspection, the company responded to the Beijing News reporter on December 15 that the prohibited spices were not added by the company, but the purchased raw materials contained ethyl maltol. For the follow-up treatment of the problem products, the other party said that some products have been recalled, and the remaining products have been handled by the Market Supervision Bureau.
