An official of the Policy Coordination Office of the South Korean government said on the 26th that the Japanese government recently announced that it would increase scallop exports to South Korea, but this is only a unilateral plan by Japan, and South Korea will still maintain import restrictions on Japanese seafood.

For now, the South Korean government is still banning the import of all seafood from eight prefectures, including Fukushima, Japan, officials from the South Korean government's Policy Coordination Office said. For seafood such as scallops from other parts of Japan, the Korean side will test for radioactive substances one by one, and even if a small amount is found, the Japanese side will be asked to submit an explanation document. This is in effect equivalent to a ban on imports.

The Japanese government revised its export strategy on the 25th, planning to export unsalable scallops due to the discharge of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea to South Korea and the European Union, hoping to achieve an annual export target of 65.6 billion yen (about 3.293 billion yuan) by 2025. Among them, the Japanese side set an export target of 4.1 billion yen (about 206 million yen) to South Korea, accounting for about 6.3% of the total export target.
