As a representative writer of 17th-century French classical comedy, Molière dedicated his life to his beloved comedy cause. Watching, commenting on and writing plays became the three most important things in Molière's theater career. Since childhood, Molière has often traveled to the streets and alleys to see how local or foreign theater companies in Paris perform plays and perform in public.
After seeing a number of plays with different styles, prominent themes and rich content, Molière decided to form a troupe of his own to bring wonderful theatrical works to the audience. From 1645 to 1658, Molière led the troupe on a tour throughout the French provinces. During the performance, Molière deeply realized that the troupe could not just play the scripts that other troupes had performed, but must have its own repertoire.
After 1652, Molière became head of the troupe and began to write plays. As Molière's debut work, "Daredevil" embodies Molière's comedic creative concept and creative talent in the initial stage, and is a valuable attempt by Molière to try to create comedy.
In 1655, Molière's poetic comedy Daredevil was staged in Lyon, France, which indicated that a comedy written by Molière himself officially "entered" the theatrical stage. In short, "Daredevil" mainly depicts a series of efforts made by a pair of master servants to get love, creating two characters with distinct personalities and different behaviors, Li Li and Masgaril.
The "Servant King" Masgaril was a wise, brave and strong man, while his master Li Li was unresponsive and unusual. Li Li fell in love with Troufaden's servant Xili, and was bent on getting Xili's heart. Masgaril tried 9 times to help his master get close to Xili, but the clumsy and ignorant Li Li was always self-defeating and could not increase Xili's good feelings for him.
Ironically, the author accidentally reveals the hidden affair between the characters through the plot setting. It turned out that Troufaden was Sili's father, and and Andrei, the "gypsy" who came to redeem Sili, turned out to be Sili's older brother (that is, Troufaden's lost son Horace). For Li Li's fiery courtship, what does Xi Li think?
In fact, Xi Li has a pure respect for Andre, she does not love Andre, but has always been devoted to Li Li. After all the truth was revealed, Troufaden betrothed Sili xu to Li Li. Li Li, who stumbled on the road of courtship, finally gained his own happiness.
The storyline of "Daredevil" is simple, the structure is clear, the lines are humorous and witty, and the style is pleasant and fresh. The clue around the "stupid master chasing love" shows Li Li's strong desire to find the value of his existence in the tender eyes of his lover. From the perspective of the lover, the author focuses on describing the urgency, anxiety, joy, hesitation, doubt, fear, shyness and other psychology when he meets the person he wants, and more cleverly constructs the charm of the characters in the play, which is easier to resonate with the reader and mobilize the reader's emotions.
The two most successful characters portrayed in the play are Li Li and Masgarril. Li Li, as a servant, is in stark contrast to Masgaril as the master. Masgaril was resourceful, patient, shrewd and loyal. Li Li is old-fashioned, funny, lacks opinion, and is self-righteous.
In the play, Li Li will always mess up one scheme after another set by MasGaril. Whenever one plan failed, Masgaril would come up with other plans. These two people are foolish and wise, clumsy and skillful, forming a sharp contrast and a strong contrast, making the whole plot section compact, the narrative vivid, and the atmosphere brisk. Li Li's desire to succeed but constantly frustrated, disappointed and full of hope for success aroused the audience's deep sympathy and curiosity to find out.
At the beginning of the first act, when Li Liyou, the master of Masgaril, asks him to be the "king of servants", he says unceremoniously: "When people need our poor people, they love us and regard us as the best people in the world; but when they are a little angry, we become the bad guys who should eat sticks." This kind of description, which concisely and appropriately describes the position of the servant and the suffering he has suffered, has aroused people's attention and discussion of the master-servant relationship.
In reality, the master and servant are the relationship between the service and the serviced, the manager and the managed. Usually, the master is high and majestic to the servant, and the servant can only obey the master's orders and cannot make his own decisions. When the master scolds the servant, the servant rarely resists fiercely, but can only endure in silence.
The relationship between the master and the servant in the text, both frank and harmonious, is not relatives like relatives, can face together when encountering difficulties, ridicule each other without worrying about turning against each other, which is undoubtedly a social ideal that the author pins on: people can cross the restrictions of class, identity, age, and property, treat each other frankly and friendlyly, share joy and sorrow together, and build a better world together.
In order to gain love, defend love, and continue love, each of us should be brave, tough, and firm. People like Li Li, who are clumsy but more and more courageous, whether they finally achieve their wishes or not, deserve people's awe.
