author:A word in the workplace

Swedish psychologist Lars Eric, who has spent years observing world-class athletes, has found that those who win championships are more focused on finishing their races than winning trophies. In other words, the primary goal of elite athletes is to surpass their current performance, not to compete with others.

In 1984, Eric announced a theory that turned sports psychology on the head: if an athlete didn't make it a goal to win an award, he would have more chances of winning a medal.

In fact, not only in sports, but in any field, once you take the result as a goal, then the goal must be difficult to achieve, because the choice of goal depends on your efforts, not a result that you cannot control. In other words, the key to achieving a goal lies in the process of effort, not what that goal is.

This is probably one of the reasons why many people's goals are always unattainable, and many people always focus too much on the goal itself, such as how to establish the goal, how to adjust the goal, and even have a strong desire to achieve the goal. Although focusing on the goal itself is not a wrong approach, you must understand that the goal is not thought out and expected, but done, and if you cannot focus on the action and process of achieving the goal, then the goal must be unattainable.

For example, I have a student who set herself a very clear and specific job search goal when she was close to graduation, but failed several applications and stayed at home for more than a year. Finally, she approached me and asked what was wrong, and I asked her how much she knew about the company, whether she reflected after failing the interview, and what preparations she had made before each application. From graduating from college to unemployed for a year at home, she has been squatting in that position in this company, which shows her persistence and strong desire to get this position, but unfortunately she did not turn her desire into action, so it led to repeated failures.

So, when you feel that your goal is always difficult to achieve, you may wish to ask yourself how much time and energy you have invested in this matter, whether you have done your best, and whether there is room for improvement and improvement, if you think that you have put in enough effort, then the goal has not been achieved may be the wrong timing, unreasonable goals and other reasons, but if you ask yourself, your effort is not enough, then your goal is not achieved is very simple, that is, the result is too important, ignore the effort itself. As long as you work a little harder, maybe your goal will be successfully achieved.
