In 1951, the US military put forward the theory of winning by firepower, and more than 150 heavy artillery pieces stormed our army's Maliangshan position, and the top of the mountain was leveled by 2 meters. The US military triumphantly cleared the battlefield. Unexpectedly, countless volunteers suddenly fell from the sky, shooting at them, and disappeared without a trace a moment later.

This fierce blow made the US military confused and overwhelmed. How did the volunteers manage to come and go without a trace?

In 1950, the Korean War broke out, and the volunteers entered Korea to fight in high spirits, but it did not take long for everyone to experience the cruelty and hardship of the war.

The US military has used 1,200 planes, 1,400 tanks, more than 300 warships and 6,094 guns to continuously bomb the positions of the volunteers.

In particular, Lieutenant General Van Vleet advocated the theory of winning by fire, and the US military fired up to 320 shells per gun per day on average.

In the beginning, on average, every 3 shells killed one volunteer soldier.

Later, our army constantly changed its combat plan, but every 50 shells still hit one soldier, and our army still suffered heavy casualties.

Happily, this sad situation was quickly reversed because of the arrival of one person.

In the Battle of Maliangshan, after a burst of indiscriminate bombardment, the American troops thought that the entire position was empty, so they swaggered up to clear the position.

But suddenly, countless volunteers fell from the sky, fired at them for a while, and then disappeared without a trace.

This fierce blow made the US military confused and overwhelmed.

The Maliangshan position was taken five times by the US military and seized back by the volunteers five times, and in the end, the United Nations suffered 4,340 casualties, 11 planes were shot down, and 6 tanks were destroyed.

Such a result surprised the US military. After that, our volunteers added wings to the tiger and began to win victory after victory.

The person who turned the tide of the war was General Wang Yaonan.

Wang Yaonan, born in 1911, followed his family to the mine as a blaster early because of his family's poverty. Later, he embarked on the road of revolution, applied his blasting experience to combat again and again, and became a rare all-round talent in our army.

After coming to the Korean battlefield, General Wang Yaonan looked at the shocking number of casualties and his heart ached.

After carefully observing the terrain, he led everyone to dig tunnels and connect strongholds on the mountainous positions of North Korea, and took measures to prevent poison, fire, cold, and moisture, and equipped mortars in the tunnels.

When a tunnel is discovered and bombed, it is quickly transferred to another tunnel. The tunnels cooperate with each other to form a fire cross network, which can well defend against attacks.

After the start of the tunnel war, the casualties of the volunteer army dropped from 150 to 10 per day, which was a 15-fold increase, which retained too many precious young lives and greatly improved the defense of our army.

The Battle of Shangganling began, and the US firepower increased from 40 rounds of shelling to 260 rounds, and the shelling continued for 43 consecutive days, in a delusional attempt to blow up the mountainous and kill more volunteer soldiers.

But 1.9 million shells and 5,000 aerial shells only cut the mountain down by two meters and blew the stones into more than one meter thick powder.

Because of the perfect tunnel designed by General Wang Yaonan, our volunteers successfully evaded the bombing of the US army and were able to preserve their strength, which led to the major achievements of recapturing positions 59 times, repelling more than 900 US attacks, and casualties of 25,498 US troops.

The tunnel battle allowed the volunteer soldiers to hold their positions, and turned Shangganling into a "sad ridge" for the US army.

One husband is the pass, and the man is open, and he is talking about General Wang Yaonan.

In fact, before the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, General Wang Yaonan also made many combat achievements and was praised by everyone for being "crowned king" many times.

He led the soldiers to build pontoon bridges and let the troops cross the river smoothly, and was known as the "bridge building king".

He organized a commando team and used blasting technology to take down the Yushe that could not be attacked many times, and was named the "King of Demolition".

In the fifth counter-encirclement and suppression, he successfully contained the Japanese attack with mine warfare, and was known as the "king of mine warfare".

After the founding of New China, Wang Yaonan was awarded the rank of major general of the engineering army. On November 3, 1984, the king of engineers, who had outstanding achievements in the history of our army, completed his magnificent life.

History will always remember, and the people will always remember this legendary engineer general - Wang Yaonan.
