On January 31, 2024, the list of "Winshare Good Books" in 2023 was officially announced.
After several rounds of screening, evaluation and voting by a review team composed of 14 experts and Winshare Editorial Board, 47 works were finally awarded the 2023 Winshare Good Books. Among these Wenxuan books, there are books that have won national and provincial awards, thematic publications that promote the spirit of the times, social science boutiques that highlight the academic spirit, high-quality books with Bashu characteristics and solid and touching literary and artistic masterpieces, which have important ideological, cultural, artistic and scientific values. To this end, the Reader's Newspaper all-media matrix grandly launched a series of reports on the "Birth of 'Winshare Good Books' in 2023" to dig deep into the stories behind "Winshare Good Books" for readers.

●Reason for the award: The book is highly original, systematically studies Chinese inscriptions from the perspective of large culture, and constructs the basic picture of Chinese inscription culture from three dimensions: the history of inscriptions, the special topic of inscription culture, and the exploration of rare inscriptions, and shows the unique aesthetic value, artistic value and cultural relics value of Chinese inscriptions.
In the vast forest of steles and the vast sea of steles, each inscription is a witness to the development of Chinese civilization, and the carving of knives and words vividly interprets the cultural self-confidence and profound heritage of the Chinese nation.
In May 2023, Sichuan Education Publishing House published "General Theory of Chinese Inscription Research" written by Mr. Jin Qizhen, a famous scholar in Jiangsu, which is a heavy work that provides a comprehensive overview of the basic picture of China's inscription culture for thousands of years.
Chinese inscription culture has a long history, after 3,000 years, its germination, development, maturity, reproduction, development has gone through a long and tortuous process. Xu Shi, a scholar of the Ming Dynasty, once recorded in the "Stylistic Distinction and Inscriptions" that "there are steles of mountains and rivers, steles of cities, steles of palaces, steles of merit, and steles of tombs...... The content of the inscriptions involves multi-dimensional historical information such as politics, military, economy, astronomy, geography, environment, religion, literature, calligraphy, education, history, scenery, folk customs, and strange things. If the inscriptions can speak, then these inscriptions are like the annals of Chinese civilization, telling an unbroken history of civilization to generations of Chinese sons and daughters.

Sichuan Education Publishing House pays more attention to the traditional Chinese culture section in the process of topic selection and planning of social science culture and theme publishing. As a unique historical and cultural carrier, the inscription is an important part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, which has entered the vision of the project team. Through the analysis of the published inscription books, the project team found that most of the existing inscription books are stories, calligraphy appreciation, or research on a certain region or a certain cultural field, and there is still a lack of general history books in the real sense.
At that time, the project team happened to learn that a professor Jin Qizhen, who graduated from Nankai University in the 60s of the 20th century with a major in history, had been deeply engaged in the field of inscription for many years. The project team immediately collected Professor Jin's relevant writings and academic achievements for study and analysis. After analyzing the research, the project team fully realized that Professor Jin's research not only reveals the historical, cultural and artistic value of the inscriptions, but also delves into the social, political, and economic connections between the inscriptions. This interdisciplinary approach and the scholarly spirit, historical skills, and academic writing skills that Professor Kim has demonstrated in his research, convinced the project team that Professor Jin is able to master the construction of a grand academic subject system. Based on this judgment, the project team immediately contacted Professor Jin and sent an invitation to the manuscript.
Jin Qizhen is also very emotional about this: "At present, most of the treatises on inscriptions are the types of calligraphy art appreciation and gold and stone text research. However, the connotation of inscription culture is extremely broad and profound, and it can only be placed under the macro perspective of thousands of years of Chinese social development history and cultural development history, from single to comprehensive, micro to macroscopic...... All-round research and investigation can grasp the pulse of the development of inscription culture. ”
When asked how she came up with the idea of building an inscription culture from these three aspects, Li Xiaxiang, the editor in charge of the book, said: "Based on the preliminary analysis and the materials and manuscripts in the hands of the authors, the project team put forward the main planning idea - 'general theory'. How can the 'General Theory' live up to its name? It is vertically and horizontally comprehensive, and the warp and weft are intertwined and corroborate each other. This idea is highly recognized by the author. After repeated discussions with Professor Jin Qizhen, the project finally decided to take "General Theory of Chinese Inscription Research" as the title of the book series, and divided it into three volumes, respectively, to construct a general history of Chinese inscription research from three perspectives: the history of inscriptions, the special topic of inscription culture, and the exploration of rare inscriptions in the past dynasties.

After two years of finalization, the project team put forward some partial supplementary suggestions, including: in-depth excavation of the role of inscriptions in witnessing Sino-foreign relations, highlighting the extraterritorial influence of Chinese inscriptions, adding new content collected and researched in the past 20 years to reflect the new development of Chinese inscriptions, highlighting the modernization and transformation characteristics of inscriptions in the modern inscription culture part, and adding a brief introduction to new works on modern inscription research. Professor Kim is happy to accept this.
In the early stage, the project team consulted experts and scholars in history, calligraphy and archaeology from inside and outside the society, and formulated a strict publication process and editing and processing standards with reference to the editing experience of similar large-scale projects. Because of the huge volume of manuscripts, the high density of knowledge, and the difficulty of editing and processing, almost all the editors of the academic branch joined the project team to undertake the task of editing and processing. "The most time-consuming part of the editing process is the verification of the knowledge points in the manuscript. Li Xiaxiang said. The editing team comprehensively used the official websites of major museums and library materials to check the content of the manuscript one by one. The manuscript has also been proofread in addition to the three reviews and three proofreadings. "It can be said that this is a tough battle in which the entire academic branch participates. ”

On January 3, 2023, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage approved and announced the "List of the First Batch of Ancient Famous Monuments and Inscriptions", most of which were included in the "General Theory of Chinese Inscription Research", which gave great encouragement to the project team. With the joint efforts of the project team, General Theory of Chinese Inscription Research was successfully met with readers in May 2023.
The General Theory of Chinese Inscription Research has a total of 2.04 million words, including more than 1,300 plates, and is divided into three volumes: "History of Chinese Inscriptions", "Chinese Inscriptions and Chinese Culture", and "Exploration of Rare Inscriptions in Chinese Dynasties".
The first volume of "History of Chinese Inscriptions" takes the history of 3,000 years as a clue, traces the origin and reproduction of the inscriptions, from the pre-Qin period to the modern era, systematically sorts out and shows the development of the inscription culture of the Chinese dynasties, clearly reveals the evolution trajectory of Chinese inscriptions for 3,000 years, and vividly explains that "the ancient inscriptions and stone inscriptions embody the outstanding continuity, innovation, unity, inclusiveness and peace of Chinese civilization".
The second volume of "Chinese Inscriptions and Chinese Culture" takes the special discussion of inscription culture as an example, and discusses the application and function of inscription in the fields of writing language, traditional Chinese medicine, astronomy and geography, hydrology and water conservancy, education and imperial examination, legal system and governance, economy, religion, diplomacy and other fields, and completely proves that "Chinese inscription is a stone encyclopedia of traditional Chinese culture".
The third volume of "An Exploration of Rare Inscriptions of Chinese Dynasties" focuses on 3,000 years of rare and peculiar inscriptions, taking the past dynasties as the axis, and showing the unique aesthetic, artistic and cultural relics value of Chinese inscriptions through in-depth research and telling allusions, anecdotes and legends. This volume divides the fine Chinese inscriptions in the past dynasties into more than a dozen categories, such as the transmutation tablet of the book style, the strange book tablet, the three unique monuments, the wordless tablet, the collection of word tablets, the Shuimu Qiyuan tablet, the special-shaped strange material tablet, the imperial imperial tablet, the stone carved scripture tablet, and the giant character cliff stone carving.
