In the impression, the great white shark is very fierce and powerful. But a pair of orcas (killer whales) are hunting great white sharks off the coast of South Africa, eating their livers and hearts, leading to a massive migration of great white sharks that have dominated the region for years.
According to one study, since 2017, a pair of menacing orcas have driven great white sharks away from their habitat off the coast of Gansbaai, South Africa. The researchers noticed that over the course of five and a half years, 14 sharks had been tracked fleeing the area where the orcas were located, and the remains of eight great white sharks had been washed ashore. Seven of these livers were eaten. The study found that these wounds were apparently caused by the same pair of orcas, and it is estimated that more great white sharks were actually hunted.
You may not think of how powerful orcas are. In addition to humans, killer whales are the only natural predators of great white sharks. It can reach a length of about 9 meters, weighs more than 6 tons, and feeds mainly on fish, squid, seals and seabirds. The great white shark can be up to 6-7 meters long and weigh about 2.5 tons.
Orcas not only hunt large marine life such as the great white shark, it also hunts its own kind.
