Crocus sativus L., also known as saffron and saffron, is a perennial flower of the genus Crocus sativus in the family Iris and a common spice. Perennial herb. The bulbs are oblate and spherical, about 3 cm in diameter, and have a yellowish-brown membranous coating on the outside.
