Founded in July 2021, the Open 3D Foundation (O3DF) has a mission to provide every industry with an open-source, full-featured, high-fidelity, real-time 3D engine for building games and simulations.

Last year, Microsoft made its game development kit available to all developers through GitHub. Through a new partnership with the Open 3D Foundation, Microsoft is expanding its commitment to making technology available to all.

IT House understands that Paul Oliver, Microsoft's Chief Group Project Manager, will join the Open 3D Foundation Management Board to support the Foundation's commitment to ensure balanced collaboration and feedback to meet the needs of the community.

After Microsoft joined, the Open 3D Foundation has 25 members, including Adobe, AWS, Huawei, Intel, and so on. In November 2021, the Open 3D Engine (O3DE) announced its first major release. The latest 21.11 release allows developers to create 3D content using the new O3DE Linux editor and engine runtime.
