Jiwei Network News, February 8 news, RISC-V International Foundation announced that Intel has joined the RISC-V International Foundation as a senior member.

Intel joined the RISC-V International Foundation and developed RISC-V chip foundry

The move demonstrates Intel's strategic approach to the RISC-V architecture and highlights the many deep collaborations risc-V members have with Intel. Bob Brennan, vice president of customer solutions engineering at Intel Foundry Services, will join the RISC-V Board of Directors and Technical Steering Committee at the same time.

In addition, Intel today announced several RISC-V sponsorship programs led by Intel Foundry Services (IFS). IFS will sponsor an open source software development platform that allows free experimentation, including partners across the ecosystem, universities and consortiums. The IFS strategy will provide broad and leading IP optimized for Intel process technology. IFS will be the only foundry to offer optimized IP for three industry-leading ISAs: X86, Arm and RISC-V.

RISC-V has long received extraordinary attention and is expected to lead the new wave of the Internet of Things era. Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has repeatedly proposed that in the future mainstream CPU architecture pattern in the world, there is one of the three worlds.

Today x86 and RISC-V, Intel wants it both. Intel has been laying out for RISC-V for some time.

For example, in June 2021, it was reported that Intel was interested in acquiring RISC-V architecture supplier SiFive, although Bloomberg's October 2021 news showed that negotiations between Intel and SiFive broke down due to the inability of the two companies to agree on financial terms. However, it can still be seen that Intel is stepping up the layout of the RISC-V ecosystem. (Proofreading/Xiaobei)
