Pokémon developer Game Freak allows three days off a week with a corresponding reduction in salary

Game Freak, developer of the Pokémon series, announced that it will introduce an optional four-day work week system, where employees can choose an extra day off except Saturdays and Sundays, but the salary will be reduced accordingly.

The program was announced in a press release that it called a "three-day elective work week" that allows employees to take an extra day off in addition to the usual Saturdays and Sundays. The aim of the program is to help full-time employees with children who are too young to go to school and need direct care from their families.

The press release said Game Freak wanted "more flexibility to implement ways of working that are appropriate for individual situations." However, this new system will also lead to lower salaries, which means that leave may not apply to all employees.

Game Freak is currently working on several Pokémon games, including Pokémon Juju/Purple, which will be released on Switch later this year.
