Relying on the online car industry to sell cars, is it reliable?

According to the statistics and forecasts of travel market data, the current mainland travel business covers 400+ urban markets, of which 137 are cities with a million population, first-tier cities account for 40% of the travel market share, 400 million annual active users, 160 million monthly active users, more than 60 billion annual travel trips, China's online ride-hailing travel penetration rate is 3%, the demand for new energy travel vehicles is at least 8 million +, the annual replacement volume is 2 million +, according to the forecast of 8% travel in 2030, the travel vehicle operation replacement cycle, The mobility market will reach more than 20 million vehicles.

Box Car founder and president Zhang Shuguang believes that in the era of smart cars, the products of the travel market need to be more finely classified, and enterprises that do B-end product operations with C-end products will go to a dilemma, car companies want to achieve "two legs" to walk, B-end, C-end products are not divided into families is very difficult, a little inattentive will fall into the "brand down" dilemma. There are many differences between the B-end and the C-end, and even the opposite, the "specialized" and "fine" of the product should be paid more attention to.

Li Yufeng, an investor who has long been concerned about the automotive industry, believes that investors will be more optimistic about the to C (individual-oriented) model because it is more sustainable. "To G (for government) is relationship-driven, and everyone feels that this is relatively a short-term behavior, to B is more than BD capabilities, and the requirements for products and user experience are not so high."

Focusing on the B-end travel market, actively and batch-oriented vehicle sales for the B-end, at this stage, there are both the electric brands of traditional car manufacturers and new car-making forces.

So, relying on the online car industry to sell cars, is this reliable?

BAIC BJEV: Once a 7-time champion, sales began to plummet in 2020

In November 2009, BAIC BJEV was founded.

In December 2010, BAIC BJEV rolled off the production line of the first batch of pure electric vehicles EV150. Public data shows that in the first year of sales, BAIC BJEV sold only 1,600 vehicles.

In 2017, BAIC BJEV's cumulative sales reached 103,100 units, accounting for 23% of the domestic market share of new energy vehicles that year, and it was the first pure electric vehicle company in China to produce and sell more than 100,000 vehicles per year.

In 2018, BAIC BJEV continued to grow at a high speed, with its cumulative sales of more than 10 pure electric vehicle models in 6 series, including EH, EU, EX, EV, EC, and LITE, exceeding 158,000 units throughout the year.

In 2019, BAIC BJEV sold more than 150,000 units, winning the top spot in domestic new energy vehicle sales for seven consecutive years. Among them, the EU series has sold more than 110,000 units.

According to industry insiders, about 70% of the sales volume of 150,000 vehicles in 2019 came from B-end (enterprise users or organizational users) orders, and the products were mainly for online ride-hailing, taxis and official cars, and the contribution rate of the private car market accounted for less than 30%. The EU5, which accounts for the highest proportion of total sales, has annual sales of more than 90,000 vehicles, of which more than 70,000 are from the B-side.

However, due to the excessive dependence on B-end procurement, with the increasingly strict supervision of online ride-hailing operation vehicles, subsidies declining, subsidy thresholds and other factors, BAIC BJEV's sales have fallen sharply since 2020, encountering Waterloo.

In 2020, BAIC BJEV sold 25,900 units for the whole year, down 82.79% from 150,600 units in 2019.

In 2021, domestic sales of new energy vehicles reached 3.521 million units, an increase of 160% year-on-year. At the same time, BAIC BJEV's annual sales in 2021 were only 26,100 units.

WM Motors: a new force in car manufacturing, the sales of the main models "fell behind"

In January 2015, Weima Automobile, a new car-making force, was established.

At the end of 2017, WM's first pure electric SUV, the WM EX5, was released and officially launched in April 2018.

In January 2019, WM announced a strategic cooperation with Meituan to introduce EX5 to Meituan Taxi.

According to the report, from September 23 to October 27, 2020, WM EX5 has broken out 4 spontaneous combustion accidents in Zhejiang, Fujian, Beijing and other places. Subsequently, WM announced a recall of 1282 vehicles.

From the start of delivery in September 2018 to the end of 2020, the cumulative sales of WM EX5 exceeded 40,000 units. From the perspective of sales composition in 2020, EX5 accounts for nearly 86% of the sales composition of WM Motors.

In 2021, the WM EX5 sold 24,000 units for the whole year.

GAC Aeon: Relying on Ruqi Travel, sales will soar in 2021

In November 2020, GAC Group announced that GAC Aeon was independent and positioned itself as a high-end smart electric vehicle brand.

In 2021, GAC Aean will have sold a total of 120,000 vehicles, a year-on-year growth rate of 100%.

In 2021, AION S sold 69,200 vehicles, accounting for nearly 60%, and is the main model of GAC Aean, attracting many taxi and online ride-hailing users at low prices.

According to the insurance volume data, AION S's rental ratio in the first half of 2020-2021 was 60%-70%, and after July 2021, the proportion of private car customers of AION S increased from 27% to 54%, which means that nearly half of the AION S that sped on the road last year were taxis and ride-hailing cars.

The high dependence on the B-end market has caused the industry to worry that GAC Aean may repeat the mistakes of BAIC BJEV to a certain extent.
