On April 21, BYD recently reached a fixed-point cooperation with Horizon, and BYD will carry Horizon Chip Journey 5 on its models to achieve high-level automatic driving functions. According to the plan, BYD models equipped with Horizon Journey 5 will meet consumers as early as next year.
It is worth mentioning that BYD also participated in the Horizon C3 round of financing in 2021, with an investment amount of 2.216 billion yuan. Therefore, this time BYD took the lead in carrying the Horizon Journey 5 chip, which can also be regarded as a near-water building.
In July 2021, the Horizon Journey 5 chip was officially released, which is the third generation of vehicle specification-grade products after the mass production of the Journey 2 and Journey 3 Chinese vehicle specification-level chips, with large computing power and high-performance attributes.
In terms of key parameters, the single AI computing power of Horizon Journey 5 can reach 128TOPS, and the CPU part adopts 8-core ARM Cortex A55. For reference, Tesla's self-developed FSD chip has a single computing power of 72TOPS, and the Model 3/Y is equipped with two comprehensive computing power of 144TOPS.
In terms of interfaces, Horizon 5 supports 4×4 MIPI16 camera perception calculations, 2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and multi-sensor fusion, prediction and planning control requirements.
In addition to the characteristics of high computing power and high performance, the power consumption of the chip has also been reduced to only 30W, which is very friendly for new energy vehicles.
Horizon is the first technology company in China to launch a vehicle-grade AI chip, and can achieve rapid front-loading mass production on the car, which provides great help in the current application of artificial intelligence, automatic driving and big data in the automotive field, and also represents the rapid progress of domestic vehicle-grade chips in terms of performance.
In addition to BYD, SAIC, Great Wall, Changan, Ideal and other car companies have also reached a series production intention with Horizon 5 chip before.
