Recently, according to overseas media, Toyota North America branch said that it will invest $383 million in four-seat plants in the United States to produce new four-cylinder engines, which will be used in models equipped with internal combustion engines and hybrids, and Toyota also announced that it will increase research and development of new engines.
Toyota also said it will invest $222 million to add a four-cylinder engine line at the Huntsville, Alabama engine plant, which currently has an annual engine capacity of 900,000 units, and will expand the plant's area to 114,000 square feet (about 10,600 square meters) after the addition of the production line. The Troy, Missouri plant and the Jackson, Tennessee plant will receive $109 million and $36 million in investment, respectively.
Most of the four-cylinder engine models currently sold by Toyota in the United States are divided into three displacements, 1.8 liters, 2.0 liters and 2.5 liters, with the exception of the Toyota GR86, which uses a 2.4-liter engine from Subaru. At the same time, Toyota is also developing a series of new engines, such as the hydrogen-powered engine jointly developed with Lexus, which will promote the brand's upgrade and transformation to the new energy era.
