Writing poetry can be exaggerated and polished, but "true" is still the premise. Li Bai's "three thousand white hairs" is indeed exaggerated, but it is true that there are white hair. "Flying down three thousand feet" is an exaggeration, but there is indeed a "flying stream straight down".
