They are not dumb, but they do not know how to speak.

They are like the stars in the sky alone in the world, and they have a common name

- Children with autism.

In December 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to designate 2 April as world autism awareness day every year from 2008 onwards to raise awareness of autism and related research and diagnosis, as well as people with autism.

The concept of autism was first proposed by Leo Canner, an expert at Johns Hopkins University in the United States in 1943, autism is also called autism in medicine, which is a disease that has not yet been known and understood by the whole society.

Unlike diseases such as Down syndrome, autism does not affect the patient's face, so the appearance of autistic patients is no different from that of normal people.

autism,

Also known as autism or autistic disorder, etc.,

It is a representative disease of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).

DSM-IV-TR divides PDD into 5 types:

Autistic disorder,

Retts Syndrome,

Childhood disintegration disorder,

Asperger's syndrome

No specific PDD.

Among them, autism disorder and Asperger's syndrome are more common.

The prevalence of autism has been reported in mixed ways,

It is generally considered to be about 2 to 50,000 people in the child population,

The ratio of men to women is about 3 to 4:1,

There are 3-4 times more boys than girls.

About 3/4 of children with this disorder have mental retardation.

About 1/3 to 1/4 of children have epilepsy.

Some children may have "autistic talents" along with mental retardation, such as abnormal performance in music, calculation, date estimation, mechanical memory and memorization

Autism ≠ a withdrawn personality

Studies have proved that the occurrence of autism is related to the physiological structure of the brain system, but it is not yet possible to determine what causes the structural abnormalities of the brain system.

Although autism is not a purely mental illness, it is a unique psychological disorder due to abnormalities in their mental activity processes.

Autism ≠ mental retardation

People with autism have a comprehensive developmental delay, which can be seen in people of different levels of intelligence,

70% of people with autism have an IQ below 70,

The other 30% of people with autism have the same IQ as the average person.

Mentally handicapped children are willing to learn but cannot learn, and children with autism can learn but are unwilling to learn.

Autism ≠ genius

Autistic people are handsome and elf-like in appearance, which is easy to misunderstand that they have good potential.

Children with autism have an abnormal development order and unbalanced development in all aspects, and some abilities will be different from ordinary people, but at the same time some abilities are far lower than those of mentally handicapped children.

Autism does not necessarily have extraordinary abilities at the same time, and only about one in ten autistic people have special expertise in calendar calculations, mathematics, music, painting, and memory.

Autism ≠ lifelong disability

The symptoms of autism do not disappear with age, and the disorder is lifelong.

The direction of rehabilitation is that they can gradually have social adaptability, self-care ability, interpersonal communication ability, and even after receiving training, they can engage in a certain job and achieve self-reliance in life, giving up rejection will cause autistic patients emotional, psychological, behavioral and other secondary obstacles, making the disease more serious.

Autism ≠ language development disorders

In addition to the characteristics of "not speaking" like people with language development disorders (dumb), autistic patients also do not use gestures, eyes, facial expressions and other nonverbal communication tools to communicate with people due to abnormal perceptual responses, and they show obvious discomfort and non-intervention in group activities, and they are unable to participate in imaginative games.

Autism ≠ psychosis

Autism will have a lot of strange behavior, it is easy to misunderstand that they suffer from mental illness, in fact, their behavior is to stimulate themselves, and the behavior of psychopaths is mostly caused by external stimulation, schizophrenic children are trying to escape from this world, and autistic children have indeed never come in.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disorder caused by a neurological disorder that affects brain function, and symptoms appear before the age of three, mostly in children.

True autism versus false autism

According to the diagnosis statistics of domestic hospitals, the incidence of autism is 2‰~3‰,

Among them, true autism accounts for less than 0.2%,

Pseudo-autism accounts for more than 99.8%.

Pseudo-autism falls into six broad categories:

70% of the gall is particularly small,

Excitement is too high 30%,

Asperger's syndrome 15%,

Weak language talent 30%,

10% weaker observation and perception,

Brain development lags by 6%,

Unexplained 5%,

Some children have more than two problems.

1 True autism (organic autism)

It is the patient who loses the brain's thinking function due to genetic mutations, and loses or seriously lacks thinking function.

Their appearance is no different from ordinary people, but their innate lack of logical thinking ability such as summary, induction, analysis, and judgment, and their lifelong intelligence is low.

Causes of true autism:

True autism is caused by genetic mutations, according to the calculation of human true autism ratio should be close to 150,000, it is estimated that the number of true autistic children born in China each year should not exceed 120, and the number of true autism patients born in the United States should be less than 36 per year.

True autism is a rare disease that should be classified.

There is currently no effective rehabilitation.

2 Pseudo-autism (functional autism)

It means that the child has no organic lesions in the thinking area of the brain and has normal thinking ability, but their lack of intelligence is due to the uneven development of a certain ability the day after tomorrow.

There is a fundamental difference between pseudo-autism and true autism.

Causes of pseudo-autism :

Pseudo-autism is due to the uneven development of several competency elements that affect human learning ability.

If the distribution of human abilities as a whole is regarded as a normal distribution, many of the abilities that children with pseudo-autism may have are at the extreme point, that is, a certain ability is extremely weak or a certain ability is too strong, resulting in the child may lose some or all of the thinking ability, resulting in lifelong mental retardation, showing the characteristics of true autism.

For example, in children with autism who exhibit particularly timid behaviors, most of them have a situation in which the early brain's visual memory ability is too strong to develop, and visual memory is difficult to forget.

As a result, children of the same age are more sensitive to the environment and have a stronger sense of self-protection than children of the same age, so children do not dare to look at people who are not familiar with them, lose the opportunity to observe and imitate the things around them, and also lose the opportunity to learn specific knowledge.

Sick children are stunted in their development and lack normal verbal and social communication skills.

In order to raise awareness of autism and strive for early treatment to improve the condition of patients, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2007 designating 2 April of each year as World Autism Day.

The resolution was submitted by Qatar and co-sponsored by 50 other countries.

Children with autism are a group that is increasing in number but is not widely concerned and understood by society, and is a group that lacks the universal care of society.

Report: U.S. Department of Health officials say one in every 156 U.S. children will have autism.

Such a high proportion far exceeds people's estimates.

To this end, the U.S. Department of Health is calling on the public to increase public attention to the disease.

In China, if calculated by the child population, according to the census statistics, in 2000, the number of children in China was about 290 million, accounting for 22.89% of the total population, and autistic children accounted for about 0.6% of the total number of children.

And it cannot be denied that there are many children with autism who have not been discovered, diagnosed, let alone treated.

The number of children with autism in China and the treatment and correction have always faced great challenges.

Autism is a "suspicious disease", the domestic and international medical level has not yet found its cause, all physiological examination results for autistic children are normal.

However, it can be concluded that autism is a congenital disorder of brain development, a disease of the nervous system, and will be accompanied for life and cannot be cured.

Foreign countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and other developed countries have a history of diagnosing and treating autism for more than 40 years, and have accumulated many successful experiences.

Practice has proved that after early correct and persistent intervention, many children with autism can integrate into society and live independently.
