"Du paradise" is a private garden built by Sima Guang in Luoyang in the Song Dynasty, although it is not a rich compound, it is famous for Sima Guang's compilation of the Zizhi Tongjian here.
Nowadays, Xu Qingxi, a retired teacher in Sima Village, Zhuge Town, Yibin District, Luoyang, has completed the protection of the "Duyuan Garden" site from discovery to evidence to confirmation in 20 years.
◎ "Lone Paradise" lost its happiness
Mencius said: "It is better to enjoy alone than to have fun with others; With less music, it is better to have fun with all. In the past two years, Xu Qingxi of Sima Village has guarded the "Du Paradise" but cannot be happy, because he has studied the "Sima Guang Du Paradise Ruins" for 20 years, which will be named "Sima Guang Cultural Park".
In Xu Lao's view, the loss of the elements of the cultural relics of the "Duyuan Ruins" is not just as simple as a mediocre naming, but "Sima Guang Cultural Park cannot reflect the duyuan culture", which weakens this cultural symbol.

In addition, in 2020, due to the needs of land development, the villagers of Sima In the thousand-year-old village that carries Sima Guangdu Paradise were relocated as a whole, and Xu Qingxi was also relocated to a community 10 miles away. Although the duyuan park ruins, Hong'en Temple, and Xu Wenzheng ancestral hall in Sima Village have been preserved, the former "Duyuan Paradise Ruins" have changed their "taste".
The 81-year-old Xu Qingxi has his own obsession, and since his retirement in 2002, he has been engaged in the study and research of Sima Guang and Xu Heng culture.
20 years of research have made him a "living dictionary" of Sima Guang's history and culture, and only the historical facts, poems and anecdotes related to Sima Guang have produced three books - "Sima Guang Xiu Shi Du Paradise", "Sima Wen Gong Du Paradise", and "Sima Guang Luoyang Complete Poems". He also served as the director of the exhibition hall of Sima Guangdu Park and won the honorary title of outstanding cultural relics conservator of Henan Province.
It is understood that in the past 20 years, he has been committed to the study of Sima Guang's history and culture, whether it is field investigation, or data examination, book promotion, Xu Lao has paid for it himself. As an "amateur cultural conservator", the elderly only have a monthly allowance of 200 yuan. "I have a retirement salary, and research is not for pay, I really like it, so I have always insisted."
Therefore, for the "renaming" of the site, Xu Lao, who has studied for such a long time, has always had a grudge, but even so, he still insists on "noisy". If someone comes to visit, he will still arrive from ten miles away to act as a "docent" of the ruins of the Duyuan Park, and the 81-year-old still has a loud voice and a clear mind.
◎Looking for "Unique Paradise"
Sima Guang's "Zizhi Tongjian" is not only a treasure book for governing the country and the country "in view of the past, there are funds to govern the Tao", but also a historical work for ordinary people to enter the depths of Chinese history and appreciate the deep wisdom of Chinese culture. This far-reaching work was compiled by Sima Guang and his assistants over a period of fifteen years in his Luoyang residence, "Du paradise".

Where is the "Solitary Paradise"? Before 2002 there was no conclusive conclusion, and even controversial. Talking about the reasons for finding the ruins of the "Duyuan Park", the elderly Xu Qingxi introduced that it originated from the fact that in 1973, former Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei visited China and came to Luoyang, he asked to visit the Duyuan Park, but at that time, not only was there no Duyuan Park, but the Duyuan Ruins were still a mystery.
In order to unravel the mystery of the "Duyuan Park" site, Xu Qingxi began to study the Sima Guang culture and devoted himself to the team of exploring the duyuan park ruins. In 2002, by chance, he saw a stone stele in the village, and the vague inscription recorded: "Chang'an Village (now Sima Village) southeast of Present-day Luocheng is the former site of Sima Wen Gong du paradise."
Seeing this, Xu Qingxi was ecstatic: Isn't this our village! So he took out his notebook, copied the inscription, and contacted the Yanshi Cultural Relics Bureau through a friend. The people of the Cultural Relics Bureau rushed to check it out and said: "The inscription is very precious, there may be major discoveries, and if there are other stone tablets in the future, please contact us immediately." ”
The ruined "Sima Guangdu Paradise Ruins"
Shortly thereafter, under the leadership of Xu Qingxi, a stele related to Duyuan Park was excavated in the ground of the village primary school, which further confirmed the location of Duyuan Park. In the same year, Xu Qingxi and his fellow villagers went to the ancestral home of Sima Guang in Xia County, Shanxi Province, to collect relevant information.
In August 2003, when Sima Middle School renovated the teaching building, the "Monument to the Six Ancestral Halls of the Great Buddha Hall of the Great Buddha Hall of Hong'en Temple" was excavated from under the foundation of the wall, and the stone tablets recorded that the ruins of Duyuan Park pointed to Sima Zhuang. After returning, under the guidance of the Yanshi Ancient Capital Society, Elder Xu began to open the "Sima Guang Relics Exhibition Hall", and the above stone stele were preserved in the exhibition hall.

At that time, Zheng Zhenfu, head of the cultural relics section of the Luoyang Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, visited the exhibition hall, and after hearing Xu Qingxi's explanation, he believed that Xu Qingxi's statements were in contrast with each other and that the research was reasonable and well-founded, so he gave Xu Qingxi an "amateur cultural relics administrator." Since then, the rest of Xu Lao's time has been closely linked to Sima Guang's history and culture.
Winter to spring, which lasted five years, after expert verification and examination by the Henan Provincial Research Museum of Literature and History, Luoyang Archaeological Research, Yanshi Ancient Capital Society, and Chinese Landscape Society, all determined that the site of Duyuan Park was in Sima Village. Finally, in 2007, the site of Sima Guangdu Paradise in Sima Village was included in the third batch of cultural relics protection units in Luoyang City.
◎ Call for the reconstruction of the Sima Guang Ancestral Hall
Xu Qingxi not only guarded the site and remnants of the "Sima " site, he was also keen on the study of traditional culture, edited the "Xu Wenzheng Gong Family Genealogy", compiled books such as "The Origin of Yanshi's Surname", found the Moya inscription on Wan'an Mountain, and declared to Luoyang City that the "Xu Wenzheng Ancestral Hall" was selected as a municipal cultural relics protection unit.

Over the past 20 years, many villagers have asked him: "How much do you earn in the village with double wages?" Elder Xu replied: "In addition to receiving a pension, I did not take too much money, and if I wanted to pay double salary, I would have applied to teach after retirement."
Today, Xu Qingxi still has not stopped, and he is calling for the rebuilding of the Sima Guang Ancestral Hall. He said: "For thousands of years, Sima People have honored Sima Guang, inherited The culture of Sima Guang, carried forward the spirit of Sima Guang, and built a thousand-year-old Sima Guang Ancestral Hall should be restored. ”
For Xu Qingxi, many things happened during this period, most of the villagers who had worked together had left, the children had left themselves forever due to illness, and Sima Village no longer existed... The only constant is the "thousand-year-old context" behind the old man Xu Qingxi; The person who wrote the Zizhi Tongjian with a pen and a heart to feel the history of the rise and fall of Luoyang.
