"I want to make a will." Before the Spring Festival in 2021, the China Probate Bank received a special phone call. On the other end of the phone was a 16-year-old teenager.

The boy said that he wanted to leave all the savings to his mother, and the staff was surprised to hear it, and she repeatedly asked for the boy's information. In accordance with national law, minors who have reached the age of 16 and whose main source of livelihood is their own labor income can make a will.

"In case I'm gone, that money can give my mother more care." The boy said that in the more than two months since the outbreak was at its worst, he, as a nurse, has witnessed the departure of many seriously ill patients. Whenever he thought of those lives that had been alive but had disappeared, he felt in his heart that it would be a pity to leave if he didn't say anything. And his mother is his spiritual pillar and his concern. The boy said to the staff, "Mom is everything to me, and this money is all I have." ”

Liu Xue (pseudonym), 35, is the only daughter of the family, and her parents have certain assets. Currently single, she wants to keep a property in her name to a friend. It turned out that her friend and her parents had a particularly good relationship, like the second daughter in the family. Liu Xue is worried that in case of any accident in the future, she hopes that her good friend can be like her to filial piety to her parents. "I know that even if I don't leave her with anything, she will take care of my parents, but I don't want her to work hard."

As of December 31, 2021, a total of 1,986 "post-80s" have entered into wills in the China Probate Bank. According to statistics, the number of wills kept by the "post-80s" has risen from 73 in 2017 to 982 in 2021, an increase of nearly 13 times in five years. Among the "post-80s" people who make a will, they all belong to the family without disputes and are in good health, and the will is made in the hope of "taking precautions", "avoiding the whereabouts of property" and "taking care of the family".

For the soaring data of "post-80s" wills, Chen Kai, head of the China Probate Bank, said that there is a certain relationship with the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in recent years, as the mainstay of society, "post-80s", shouldering huge pressure on the family and society, and facing elderly parents, young spouses and young children, the family relationship and interest pattern behind it are more diverse, making them have to think about making a will as soon as possible.

This shift in attitude toward life and death is precisely a rational attitude, "perhaps it does not mean that people have no anxiety and fear of death, but that in the process of making their will, they re-examine the past and future of life." Chen Kai said.

After the testator's death, if the family is unaware of the existence of the will, or if the judicial authorities do not find the will, it may lead to the division of the estate against the testator's wishes. From March 21, 2022, the China Probate Bank officially launched the free service of "Online Inquiry of Wills" to the society, and only symbolically charged 0.01 yuan to prevent malicious inquiries.

The staff of the Beijing Second Registration Center of the China Will Bank told reporters that the China Will Bank provided the society with the service of will inquiry at the beginning of its establishment. Previously, everyone was through telephone and offline inquiry, and after the online inquiry system was launched, it will gradually replace the traditional offline inquiry service in the past.

As of December 31, 2021, the China Probate Bank had received a total of 8,423 pre-inquiry applications, of which 4,707 were eligible for the results of the inquiry, and 617 of the applications that met the query results were not eligible to view or extract the original wills.

Chen Kai introduced that according to the provisions on privacy protection and data security, the China Probate Bank has taken a number of measures to protect the privacy and data security of the parties. Before going through the procedures for viewing or withdrawing the original will in the China Probate Bank, a preliminary procedure of "pre-inquiry" needs to be completed. "Pre-inquiry" means that the applicant can apply to the China Probate Bank to check whether the heir has left a will before the deceased's life with his or her ID card and the deceased's death certificate. If the heir left a will before his or her death, the system will show whether the applicant is eligible to view or withdraw the original will.

Making a will is no longer a representative of touching the mold, but an expression of love for family and friends.
