This issue of "Future China" invited Zhao Dongyuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the Department of Chemistry of Fudan University. He and his research team originally put forward the idea of organic-organic self-assembly, broke through the big problem of mesoporous research, and created ordered functional mesoporous polymers and carbon materials, which won the first prize of the National Natural Science Award. At present, Zhao Dongyuan's team has studied when mesoporous materials have been applied to petrochemicals as catalysts, which greatly improves the conversion efficiency of heavy oil, and increases sinopec's production by about 15 billion yuan per year after national promotion. For the future research and application direction, Zhao Dongyuan also imagined it, and hoped that mesoporous materials, like Lego, would continue to organize and produce a variety of new materials.
In addition to doing scientific research, Academician Zhao Dongyuan believes that science needs to be inherited, and the duty of a scientist is to awaken the society's attention to science, so he insists on giving classes to undergraduates. From inorganic materials to organic materials, from non-porous materials to porous materials, Academician Zhao Dongyuan encouraged young college students and teenagers to dare to be "whimsical". When asked about the enrollment standards, Academician Zhao Dongyuan said that one is to have unlimited love for science, and the other is to have a certain scientific literacy, because love can burst out of infinite power and make oneself imagine a reality.
