Volkswagen Group said in a statement that former Opel CEO Thomas Sedran has been named the new chief financial officer (CFO) of Volkswagen's automotive software company Cariad.

Sedran will officially take office on March 15, responsible for businesses such as finance and procurement, while Cariad is focused on inorganic growth and building software capabilities and technical capabilities into its portfolio.

According to the data, Sedran holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Munich, and Volkswagen highlighted his expertise in strategy, finance and capital markets in a statement.

Sedran was a consultant from 1988 to 2012 and was appointed to Opel's Board of Management and Interim CEO in 2021.

In 2015, Sedran became Head of Strategy for the Volkswagen Group, then Chairman of the Management Committee of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division and then Head of Management for Commercial Vehicles and Mechanical Engineering of the Group.

Sedran will succeed Werner Neuhold as Chief Financial Officer of Cariad, and Neuhold will return to Audi.

Previously, in October 2020, Neuhold joined Cariad of the Volkswagen Group as Chief Financial Officer, forming the Finance Department.
