Saying goodbye to the mobile business, BlackBerry announced the sale of patents for $600 million

Feb. 1 News Communications software company BlackBerry announced the sale of its non-core patent assets for $600 million, mainly for mobile devices, messaging and wireless networks, and the patents necessary for its current core business are not involved in the transaction.

According to BlackBerry, the buyer is Catapult IP Innovations, a special agency set up specifically for this patent purchase. The agency will give BlackBerry $450 million in cash and $150 million in acceptance drafts, as well as a license to buy back patents.
