According to the information released on Volvo's official website the day before, Volvo will launch a 3-year wireless charging test plan. The project will work with taxi dispatch company Cabonline to test wireless charging stations with a small makeover XC40 Recharge electric taxi. Volvo estimates that the XC40 Recharge taxi will travel 12 hours a day and will travel 100,000 kilometers per year.
The wireless charging station for testing is expected to be provided by Momentum Dynamics, a U.S. wireless charging equipment company. Charging is also quite simple, as long as the vehicle is parked in the parking space with a wireless charging system, the vehicle will automatically turn on the charging mode. According to Volvo's public information, the maximum charging power of wireless charging will reach at least 40kW, which is almost the same level as the 50kW wired charging system, and at this charging speed, it only takes about half an hour to provide a driving distance of about 100 kilometers.
In addition, the XC40 Recharge no-charge test plan will be carried out at Volvo's headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. In order to make the whole test safer, the Gothenburg municipal government has also planned a test environment called "Gothenburg Green City Zone", in addition to this test, Volvo also revealed that it will conduct other electric vehicle tests in this test area.
