Volvo officials said it is working with partners to test the wireless charging of vehicles in the use environment of cities to assess the potential of future electric vehicles.
Mats Moberg, head of research and development at Volvo Cars, said: "Try exciting new technologies in a real-world environment and evaluate them over time for wider rollout in the future. Testing new charging technologies with selected partners is a great way to evaluate alternative charging options for our future cars. ”
It is reported that the charging station is provided by the supplier Momentum Dynamics wireless charging equipment, when the vehicle is parked on the parking space (charging board), the vehicle will automatically charge, while the driver does not need to get out of the car and wait. Vehicles will use a 360-degree imaging system to assist with parking and charging related work, and the wireless charging power is almost equivalent to 50 kW DC fast charging, which is 4 times the wired charging power of 11 kW.
It is expected that the Volvo XC40 pure electric taxi with wireless charging function will travel more than 12 hours a day and 100,000 kilometers per year; this is also the first time that Volvo pure electric vehicles have been tested for durability in commercial scenarios.
