Today (March 3), the third exhibition of the "Gallery No. 600" of the Shanghai Mental Health Center was officially opened to the public on the first floor of Building 6 of the hospital. The participating artists are all artists with schizophrenia who are hospitalized here, and the exhibition presents their unique life stories.
"Come on, you guys are great." "'Gallery 600' is worth the trip, the paintings are very healing and will come often." The first batch of visitors painted "heart words" in the interactive area and wrote down their feelings.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness with a prevalence of about 1% in the population. "We don't need to put any mark on this type of disease, especially negative ones." Xie Bin, secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Mental Health Center, said that the works exhibited in Gallery 600 this time come from three long-term hospitalized schizophrenic artists in the Minhang branch of the Shanghai Mental Health Center, "These paintings are to let the whole society see the other side of schizophrenia patients, and painters, musicians, writers and even scientists can also emerge among them." ”
This time, the planning team once again innovated and introduced the way of interactive art exhibition, the staff will collect and sort out the audience's messages and send them to the participating artists, and the artists' feedback will be updated to the audience regularly in the message area. The planning team hopes to turn the exhibition into a "microphone" and promote two-way spiritual communication between patient artists and the public.
"Since the first issue, every work in Gallery 600 has been a self-portrait in some sense, and every time it is exhibited, we are not only admirers, but also participants and actors in promoting the decontamination of mental health. Here you can talk about everything about mental health. Mental illness needs to be understood by more people, tolerated and accepted by society, which is the direction of the development of medical humanities and the significance of the exhibition. Doctors say they hope that interactive art exhibitions created by the work of patient artists will lead to change.

Yu Jun, a second-level researcher at the Press and Publicity Department of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, said that "No. 600 Wanping South Road" is becoming synonymous with mental health, which is not only the result of the hospital's spiritual civilization, but also the embodiment of the warmth of the city of Shanghai.
