The wonderful Beijing Winter Paralympic Games are about to kick off.

Winter Okumura:

Complete the conversion within 44 hours

On February 25, the three major competition areas of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games - Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou Winter Paralympic Villages were officially opened. On the first day of the opening of the village, more than 600 delegations from China, Italy and Sweden stayed in the Winter Paralympic Village. It is understood that at present, 49 delegations have won the quota for the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, and it is expected that more than 1,700 athletes and team officials will stay one after another.

In order to ensure the smooth and safe progress of the Winter Paralympic Games, the three Winter Olympic Villages completed the transition to the Winter Paralympic Villages in 44 hours from 12 noon on February 23 to 8:00 a.m. on February 25. The addition of barrier-free facilities is one of the most important tasks for the "transformation" of the Winter Olympic Village into a Winter Paralympic Village.

In the Beijing Winter Paralympic Village, there is a special barrier-free passage in the reception hall, which can be smoothly passed by people in wheelchairs; the apartment building, fitness center, entertainment center, square area and other areas have been converted and temporary barrier-free facilities have been added; the restaurant has re-planned the way of dining seats and drinks, and more than 100 wheelchair seats have been reserved; the wheelchair prosthetic repair center has been opened in the square area, and 13 Chinese and foreign professionals are ready; in terms of security and transportation, security policies and procedures for the disabled have been formulated. And set up a separate examination room.

During the conversion period, Yanqing Winter Paralympic Village carried out systematic maintenance inspections of 706 rooms of the venue, and focused on testing 79 barrier-free rooms, and added or renovated more than 20 barrier-free facilities. According to the relevant person in charge of Beijing National Alpine Ski Company of Beijing Enterprises Group, barrier-free rooms use anti-slip materials in corridors and indoor floors, the interior space of the room is wheelchair accessible, the bedroom window handles, power sockets, switch panels, and rescue call buttons are at a relatively low level, and all kinds of furniture can also meet the needs of the disabled. In addition, Yanqing Winter Paralympic Village has also completed 134 logo conversion adjustments, starting from the details to make the barrier-free environment more warm; more than 40 points, nearly 100 landscape shapes have been adjusted and replaced, and the mascot of the Winter Paralympic Games, "Snow Rongrong", has officially "taken up the post".

In Zhangjiakou Winter Paralympic Village, the Chinese sports delegation's Paralympic snowboarding team, Paralympic cross-country skiing and biathlon teams have successfully moved in on February 25 and have recently carried out various adaptation training. Previously, the operation team of Zhangjiakou Winter Paralympic Village used field drills to verify whether the Winter Paralympic Village had formed a systematic, coherent and convenient barrier-free environment for venues by simulating the daily behaviors of athletes arriving, accommodation, dining, riding, and fitness. In addition to the hardware conversion, the operation team of Zhangjiakou Winter Paralympic Village also conducted winter Paralympic support training to ensure that venue staff fully understand the special needs of relevant personnel of the Winter Paralympic Games and prepare in advance.

Venues:

Full of human initiatives

The Beijing Winter Paralympic Games has set up 6 major events and 78 minor events, including wheelchair curling, Paralympic ice hockey, Paralympic cross-country skiing, Paralympic biathlon, Paralympic alpine skiing, and Paralympic snowboarding. The start of various events is imminent, and the venues have entered the "preparation mode".

At the National Stadium "Ice Sail", a number of Paralympic ice hockey teams have come here for field adaptation training in recent days. During the Winter Paralympic Games, the National Stadium will host all Paralympic ice hockey matches.

In Paralympic ice hockey, athletes are required to compete on the ice sled. Similar to the Winter Olympic ice hockey game, paralympic ice hockey is fast-paced, intense, fiercely confrontational, and quite ornamental. In order to allow athletes from all over the world to show the highest level on the ice surface of the "Ice Sail", the National Stadium has made full preparations in terms of accessibility.

On the playing field, considering that Paralympic ice hockey players use a toothed club at one end, which is more likely to cause wear on the ice surface, the ice surface of the game is about 1 cm thicker than at the Time of the Winter Olympics; in the athletes' passage, the newly laid imitation ice board covers the previous rubber floor; in the athletes' warm-up area, the pedal bicycle is replaced by a hand-cranked gym; in the media mixed interview area, the baffle between the media and the interviewee is reduced from the previous 1.2 meters to 0.6 meters... In addition, in terms of spectators, the number of barrier-free seats in the seat area of the venue has increased by 4 times, and low-level service desks have also been set up at various catering outlets and service desks for the convenience of disabled people.

The National Alpine Ski Center in Yanqing will host Paralympic alpine skiing during the Winter Paralympic Games, where 30 gold medals will be awarded.

Within the Snow Flying Swallow, humane facilities and initiatives for Paralympic athletes can be seen everywhere. Wooden planks and a layer of non-slip mats have been laid on the snow to facilitate the passage of athletes; drinks in the athletes' lounges are arranged vertically, and different types of drinks are placed on each floor, so that athletes of different heights can get their favorite drinks.

According to Zhang Suzhi, executive deputy director of the Yanqing Operation Center of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, during the Winter Paralympic Games, the National Alpine Ski Center provided special facilities for sitting athletes, setting up a drag with a total length of 980 meters on the racing track and a magic carpet with a length of 115 meters and a net width of 1.2 meters in the end area of the competition to facilitate the connection and movement of sitting athletes between the lounge, the track and the training track.

In this regard, Liu Jie, Paralympic integration manager of the venue operation team of the National Alpine Ski Center, said that he hopes to form an inclusive environment in the venue, so that athletes can pass by their own strength and enjoy the Paralympic alpine skiing trip.

The Genting Ski Park in Zhangjiakou will host paralympic snowboard obstacle chases and slope slalom competitions, resulting in a total of 8 gold medals. Compared with the previous Winter Olympics, Genting Ski Park retains the original obstacle course track, but shortens the length of the track, reduces the starting point and the difficulty of the track to meet the needs of the Winter Paralympic Games. At the same time, a 550-meter-long slope slalom circuit has been created in Genting Ski Park.

The National Biathlon Center "Ice Jade Ring" located in the ancient poplar tree venue group will host the Paralympic cross-country skiing and Paralympic biathlon competitions, and is the venue that generated the most gold medals at the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games (38).

In the "Ice Jade Ring", the same preparations are underway. For example, the shooting point and shooting target wall distance for paralympic biathlons have been changed from 50 meters at the Winter Olympics to 10 meters, and cross-country skiing tracks have introduced a new sit-in athletes track.

According to Chen Guohui, venue and infrastructure manager of the National Biathlon Center, in addition to setting up a special track for sitting athletes on the track, the National Biathlon Center has also set up a 2.5-meter-wide and nearly 1,000-meter-long special passage along the outer edge of the track, which is convenient for sitting athletes to independently complete the whole process of warm-up, participation, waiting for results, post-race interviews and other full-process actions.

Chinese Sports Delegation:

Achieve full coverage of major competitions

In this Winter Paralympic Games, 96 Chinese athletes will compete in all 6 major events and a total of 73 minor events. Among the participating athletes, 85 participated in the Winter Paralympic Games for the first time, accounting for 88.5%. The average age of the athletes is 25 years old, the oldest is the 45-year-old alpine skier Zhang Haiyuan, and the youngest is the 17-year-old snowboarder Geng Yanhong.

This is the sixth time that China has organized a delegation to participate in the Winter Paralympic Games, and it is also the largest, the largest number of athletes and the most complete sports. Compared with the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games, the number of major events participated by Chinese sports delegations increased from 2 to 6, and the number of minor events jumped from 6 to 73.

Before Beijing's successful bid for the Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympic Games in 2015, China carried out two major events: Paralympic cross-country skiing and wheelchair curling in the six major events of the Winter Paralympic Games. After unremitting efforts in recent years, China's winter Paralympic sports have made continuous progress - the number of winter Paralympic athletes in the country has grown from less than 50 to nearly 1,000; the number of winter Paralympic events has expanded from two to 6, achieving full coverage of winter Paralympic major events.

Since 2016, China has participated in a number of international winter Paralympic events and won many medals. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games, the Chinese wheelchair curling team won the championship, achieving a breakthrough of "zero" for Chinese winter Paralympic gold medals, and creating the best single result in China since the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Paralympic Games sent a team to participate.

In order to improve the competitive level of winter Paralympic athletes, China has carried out uninterrupted training for athletes in major sports of the Winter Paralympic Games throughout the year, realizing the combination of summer training and winter training, domestic and overseas, training and competition, and the competitive level of athletes has been continuously improved. Before the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, the winter Paralympic athletes carried out sprint preparations at four training bases in Beijing, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Gansu.

With the opening of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games approaching, winter Paralympic athletes from all over the world, including Chinese athletes, have recently begun to carry out adaptive training in various venues. Chinese athlete Guo Yujie will compete in biathlon and cross-country skiing at the Winter Paralympic Games. She said that she hopes that she can show the spirit of self-improvement and tenacious struggle on the field and strive to win glory for the country. At the same time, through participating in the Winter Paralympic Games, more disabled friends will be encouraged to participate in social life, participate in ice and snow sports, and enjoy the joy of sports.

In recent years, China has helped and encouraged disabled people to participate in sports through various measures, and more and more disabled people have actively participated in and felt the charm of ice and snow sports and shared the opportunity to shine in life. Yong Zhijun, deputy director of the Sports Department of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, said that according to incomplete statistics, the number of disabled people participating in ice and snow season sports in China has reached 300,000 every year. It is believed that with the holding of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, more and more disabled people will participate in ice and snow sports to improve the quality of life.
