The 38-year-old worker accidentally fell to the ground after the occipital bone, causing severe cerebral hemorrhage, and when he was sent to the hospital, his life was already hanging in the balance. Subsequently, a "robbery war" between the god of death and death began in the middle of the night, and the team of doctors of Wuhan Sixth Hospital (Affiliated Hospital of Jianghan University) fought hard for 10 hours, and two surgeries relay rescue, and finally let the worker successfully escape from danger.
At about 5 p.m. on February 25, Mr. Ma (pseudonym), 38, accidentally fell on the construction site and landed on the back of his head, immediately appearing unconscious. When he was taken to the Sixth Hospital of Wuhan by the 120 ambulance, he was in a deep coma, his right pupil was dilated, and his life was hanging in the balance.
After an emergency head CT scan, Mr. Ma was found to have fractures of the occipital bone on the left side, multiple contusions and lacerations in the temporal lobe of the right frontal lobe, acute subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, compression fracture of the lumbar spine, and herniation formation.

The team of neurosurgery experts of the hospital quickly gathered, and Professor Zhang Zhiqiang, director of the department, Professor Xu Xianping, deputy director of the department, and Dr. Yang Min, analyzed and discussed the condition together, and quickly determined the rescue plan. While communicating with the family, the hospital set up a multidisciplinary medical care and treatment team, led by Vice President Wang Xiaojiang, who led the departments of critical care medicine, anesthesia, operating room, radiology and other related departments to seamlessly connect and go all out to save Mr. Ma.
Surgery can be described as a dangerous situation, poor coagulation function brings massive bleeding, blood pressure drops, brain tissue bulging... Director Zhang Zhiqiang's team worked all the way through thorns and thorns, and after 3 hours of hard work, successfully completed the decompression of the top of the right frontotemporal valve, the removal of subdural hematoma, and the dissection of necrotic brain tissue from the contusion of the frontal temporal lobe. At the end of this operation, Mr. Ma's right pupil began to retract. Before the doctors could exhale, Mr. Ma suddenly showed dangerous manifestations such as dilated pupils on his left side and unstable blood pressure. Dr. Yang Min judged that it may be that after the deboning of the deboned bone flap of the apical lobe of the right frontotemporal lobe, the bleeding of the left occipital bone fracture formed an epidural hematoma, and it is necessary to urgently perform decompression surgery at the corresponding site again.
Professor Zhang Zhiqiang communicated with the family again and asked if he was willing to give it a go and re-operate. Mr. Ma's wife, Ms. Hu, said that she trusted the doctor and the hospital, "My husband's life will be entrusted to you, agree to the operation!" ”
At 9:30 p.m. that night, the second procedure was initiated. Three directors of neurosurgery gathered around the operating table to complete compound surgeries for Mr. Ma, such as de-bony flap decompression of the left occipital and posterior cranial fossa, removal of epidural hematoma, removal of hematoma in the cerebellum, and insertion of intracranial pressure probe. At the end of the operation, it was 3 a.m. the next day.
After the operation, Mr. Ma was admitted to the intensive care unit, and the medical staff began to treat him with hemostasis, dehydration, neuroprotection, sub-hypothermia and so on.
At 7:00 a.m. on February 26, Zhang Zhiqiang saw during his rounds that Mr. Ma's bilateral pupils had returned to normal and his vital signs were stable, and he showed a happy smile.
"Being able to pull patients back from the ghost gate is a great reward for our doctors, better than countless honors." He said.
On the 27th, the reporter learned that Mr. Ma, who has successfully passed the first hurdle, will continue to receive close monitoring and treatment in the next two weeks.
