A mountain, a river and a city: the poet's feelings of the painter Tang Xuefeng

Tang Xuefeng

Born in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, now living in Shenzhen, graduated from the China Academy of Art, professional painter and poet.

In this rapidly developing city, Tang Xuefeng is immersed in the personal art world, and he always maintains the most delicate and sensitive tentacles to understand human nature and social changes. The picture is clearly based on contemporary concepts, and is full of metaphors for reality through the narrative of living objects and the reconstruction of the real world.

"A mountain, a river, a city, a poem, a painting and a shadow" is the theme of Tang Xuefeng's artwork. Poetry is an invisible painting, painting is a tangible poem, his painting with the help of poetry, the two art forms penetrate and interact with each other, showing a broader artistic conception, full of rich literature, reflecting a philosophical thinking, more readable.

Brave dreamers

If there is any place in China that is a holy place for painting lovers to pursue their dreams and inhabit, Shenzhen's Dafen Oil Painting Village is definitely on the list.

According to statistics, Dafen Village is home to more than 8,000 painters and painters from all over the country, and there are more than 1,000 oil painting-based stores, making it one of the largest production and trading bases for commercial oil paintings in China.

Painting alone in the studio

Due to the relatively backward development of the art industry in his hometown, Tang Xuefeng hopes to go to a bigger stage to show his talents and ambitions. He knew that there was a Dafen village in Shenzhen, where many people who liked to paint would seek a way to make a living, so he went to Shenzhen alone.

Quiet painting time

In 2003, Tang Xuefeng set out for Shenzhen. Here he met many young painters and became friends with them. The pure and free painting environment of Dafen Village, a group of companions with the same hobbies and interests, diluted Tang Xuefeng's confusion and unprepared emotions when he first arrived in a foreign land, so that he quickly found a sense of belonging and integrated into the new life of the city.

Lonely stranger

Alone in a foreign land for strangers.

Although Tang Xuefeng quickly settled his heart in the strange city, not every traveler was as calm as he was.

A bygone era

Shenzhen is a city without a sense of distance. All dreamers struggle here, everyone's wishes and dreams are different, but the pace and mentality of pursuit are the same. People who are crowded in the city are engaged in different industries, but there will always be a few moments, with the same heart, similar back. Here, the distance between people's hearts is not so far.

One of the high-speed rail era

Shenzhen is also a cruel city. Everyone expects to realize their ambitions and dreams here, but dreams and reality always have a long distance, hurried steps, feet on confidence and confusion, hard work and helplessness, confusion and struggle, hope and disappointment.

The second of the high-speed rail era

During the day, we are hurried red dusters; at night, we are lonely night travelers.

Young hard workers, even if they have a passionate fighting spirit, they will inevitably be rendered with gray colors, feeling lonely and wandering.

There are white pigeons skimming in the early morning

Tang Xuefeng sensed this emotion from the people around him, and that was also how he had felt it. He saw the tired soul under the smiling faces of these dreamers and hard workers, and their backs seemed to carry endless stories and transmit infinite thoughts.

Far away in the distance

From that moment on, Tang Xuefeng decided to include these people living in the city. He shuttled between cities, walking through spring, summer and autumn and winter, stations and subways, early morning and dusk, seaside and towers, just to paint the bright and dark, warm and cool life.

The ferryman of the soul

Tang Xuefeng's oil paintings are mainly divided into girl series and clown series.

Most of the girl series are depicted from the perspective of the back of young women, and the picture is beautiful and literary and poetic.

Morning in the woods

Back shadow, is a language. It can convey a lot of information, but there are appropriate gaps, leaving people to interpret and guess, and a hint of mystery. Whether it is happy or sad, whether it is missed or looking at it from afar, this sentiment can only be left for the person outside the painting to chew carefully.

In Tang Xuefeng's paintings, they have light shadows, beautiful black hair, elegant postures, such as pure white jasmine blooming in the wind, and a faint fragrance.

Empty city

The strange thing is that these beautiful pictures like the moon always show a hint of sadness if there is nothing.

The simple maiden is opposed to the noisy city, passing through dense houses, vast airports, fast-flowing stations... One still and one moving, one light and one dark, one soft and one rigid, the contrast between color and color, the contrast between people and the city, the contrast between individuals and groups, everything is so clear.

Qingqing Zizhen

And this contrast further sets off an understanding of the surrounding environment. The movement of the world is merciless, the walls of the city are cold, but the people who live are warm, and the people are very small for the world, but they are always the brightest and vivid color.

Paradise Lost

The clown series is more realistic, expressing the helpless and lonely life of contemporary urbanites.

City Witness

In society, no one can live as they please, and persistence and hard work may not be recognized and valued. The cramped urban space allows people to play the role of clowns, wear a mask of forced laughter, cover up the real emotions below, and become actors on the stage of life.

No one stood with me at dusk

Tang Xuefeng's oil paintings are more like a ferry of these lonely urban souls, using color and brushstrokes to bring a trace of relief and healing, not compassion and sympathy, but a kind of spiritual resonance after feeling empathy.

This is Tang Xuefeng's delicacy and sensitivity, but also his kindness and authenticity. In the quiet corner of the room, facing the hustle and bustle of the red dust, he chanted softly in poetry:

Gray tones

Never-ending gray tones

A city engulfed in smog

People devoured by the city

Congested viaducts

An extensive subway

Huge city

Icy behemoths

Neither can it be integrated into the bustling daytime

It also can't blend in with the hustle and bustle of the night

We are imprisoned by this city

But they didn't want to leave
