For the first time, Shenzhen uses self-driving light trucks to transport anti-epidemic materials

Nandu News Reporter Zhang Yanli In the early morning of February 26, in the Shatou Street Office in Futian District, Shenzhen, the staff was loading a batch of epidemic prevention materials into two self-driving trucks. During the epidemic period, these two light trucks will be responsible for the distribution of epidemic prevention materials in the demarcation and control area of Shatou Street, covering the entire Shatou Street and serving 12 epidemic prevention work stations.

Shatou Street has a large population, including thousands of volunteers, so there is a huge demand for epidemic prevention materials in the area every day. However, in the face of huge demand, the streets are facing the difficulty of insufficient transportation capacity, coupled with large facilities such as tables and chairs, tents, as well as a large number of protective clothing, masks, medical shoe covers, face screens, goggles, alcohol and other epidemic prevention supplies can not be supplied through car transportation, and the supply of epidemic prevention materials is in short supply.

After learning that the transportation of materials in Shatou Street was difficult, Yuan Rongqi responded quickly and used self-driving light trucks for material transportation. According to the staff at the scene, the two self-driving light trucks began to "take up" from the night of the 24th, and on the 25th, a single self-driving light truck transported more than 500 boxes of materials, including nearly 3,000 pieces of protective clothing, nearly 10,000 bottles of alcohol, tens of thousands of face screens, more than 30,000 medical gloves, more than 80,000 masks, and more than 10,000 other anti-epidemic materials.

The self-driving light truck that Yuanrong started with, combining sensors such as lidar, camera, millimeter-wave radar, and combined navigation, has the sensitive perception ability like a human driver, and can drive efficiently on complex urban roads. Unlike human drivers, self-driving light trucks do not feel "tired" and "sleepy", and can carry out cargo transportation work "non-stop".

Zhou Guang, CEO of Yuanrong Qixing, said that before the end of epidemic control, Yuanrong Qixing's self-driving light trucks will continue to carry out material transportation services to ensure the continuous supply of epidemic prevention materials in the control area.

This is the second time that Yuan Rong has applied autonomous driving technology to participate in the fight against the epidemic. In June 2021, Yuanrong Qixing actively responded to Shenzhen's call for "science and technology to fight the epidemic", organized a special autonomous driving fleet for epidemic prevention to undertake the task of transporting nucleic acid test samples from the Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Shenzhen, providing 24-hour all-weather automatic driving transportation support, transporting nearly 30,000 nucleic acid samples in total.
