Cheap and not good?
Questions from this issue:
When buying a cheap used car, what are the car viewing techniques to prevent being pitted?
First, look at the engine foot pads.
Check the approximate true mileage of the average family car, and note that I am talking about a regular family car! The most reliable way is to lift the car up and see how old the chassis rubber sleeve is.
But the average used car dealer will not let you lift the car up and check it, unless he lacks the heart...
But fortunately, by observing the engine's foot pads, it is also possible to roughly determine the mileage of the car, and the foot pads are things that can be seen as soon as the hood is opened, which is the joint that connects the body and the engine.
Because the engine will continue to vibrate when working, the rubber in this foot pad is used to buffer this vibration transmitted from the engine to the body, and rubber products have an aging cycle.
So if you see cracks in the rubber sleeve in the foot pads, it means that the car is at least three years old or more than 50,000 kilometers.
If the cracks on the rubber sleeve exceed 2 mm, then the car is at least 6 years old or 100,000 kilometers.
If the rubber cover is not only cracked, but also deformed, then the car is at least 9 years or 150,000 kilometers away.
But if there is a new rubber sleeve on the car, then the situation is judged.
The first case is that the rubber sleeve of the original car's foot pad is badly aged, cracked or even deformed, and then directly replaced with a new foot pad. Usually, cars that take 9 years or more than 150,000 kilometers will replace this thing.
The second case is that the engine is likely to be dismantled and overhauled, and then replaced with a new foot pad.
In this case, it is more reasonable to look at the odometer, if the table is about 150,000 kilometers.
But if it is less than 150,000 kilometers, or even less than 100,000 kilometers, then it is necessary to consider whether the meter has been adjusted or the engine has been overhauled.
Second, touch the brake disc.
An ordinary family car, attention! I'm talking about ordinary family cars that run in the city, the brake discs can be replaced at least until 150,000 kilometers, and the wear and tear of the brake discs has two characteristics.
The first feature is the brake discs of the two front wheels with a circle of bulges at the edges.
This is because the brake pads cannot be worn to the edge of the brake disc, and over time, there will be a height difference between the wear area and the edge of the brake disc, and the true mileage of the vehicle can be judged by the height difference.
Generally speaking, for a car that travels about 50,000 kilometers, the height difference is about 1 mm. For a car of about 100,000 kilometers, the height difference is about 2 mm. For a car that travels about 150,000 kilometers, the height difference is about 3 mm.
The second feature is the two rear brake discs, which are always less weary than the two front wheel discs.
This is because 80% of the braking force of a family car when driving is provided by the brake discs of the front wheels.
Therefore, the brake disc of the rear wheel is theoretically used for 300,000 kilometers, which is not too much of a problem, and many cars drive to scrap and do not replace the brake disc.
But there is an exception, if your car is an electronic parking brake, and you did not loosen the habit of electronic parking brake when you started, often taking the parking brake directly to start.
Then the degree of wear of the rear brake disc and the degree of wear of the front brake disc are basically the same.
Therefore, we can judge the real mileage of the second-hand car and whether there are accidents through these two characteristics.
First, you can directly touch the brake discs of the two front wheels with your hands, and then compare them with the odometer. For example, the second-hand Sonata I bought shows that it is more than 150,000 kilometers away, and the grooves on the brake discs of the front wheel are also very deep, and even a little bit of a hand.
However, if the grooves of the two front wheel brake discs are not the same deep, then you need to think about why you should replace the brake discs separately, most likely to hit this side, and the impact is not light before you need to replace the brake discs.
The second is to touch the depth of the brake disc grooves of the two rear wheels by hand, under normal circumstances, the difference in the depth of the grooves of the front and rear brake discs should be about 1 mm.
For example, the depth of the front brake disc groove of my Sonata is about 3 mm, and the depth of the rear brake disc groove should be about 2 mm.
But if its rear brake disc grooves feel 3 mm deep, and the grooves of the two front brake discs are only about 1 mm to touch, it is obvious that the front brake discs have been replaced, if the mileage of the odometer is only 100,000 kilometers, then the car is most likely a meter car.
Third, look at the depth of the tire tread.
The two front wheel tires of general family cars are normally driven for about 20,000 kilometers on urban paved roads, and only wear about 1 mm.
The tire pattern of a new family car wears the warning line, which is about 6 to 8 mm from the tread, so you can directly use a ruler to resist the tire warning line, and then look at the depth of the tire pattern from the side.
For example, in the picture above, this car was bought last year, only ran more than 10,000 kilometers, and the tire tread depth I measured with a ruler is still 7 mm, which is more normal.
Most car owners do not regularly remove the tire position to maintain the habit of tires, so the wear cordon of the rear wheel is generally about 1 to 2 mm more than the front wheel.
That is to say, if you buy a used car, its odometer is only about 50,000 kilometers, then its original front tire should only wear 2 to 3 mm, and the rear wheel should only wear about 1 to 2 mm.
If any of the original tires exceed this degree of wear, it is very suspicious, either it is over-gauge, or the car often runs mountain roads or runs under heavy loads.
Of course, if all four tires of a car have been changed, then the car has a high probability of driving more than 100,000 kilometers.
However, this is not absolute, after all, some car owners have bad luck, and four tire punctures cannot be repaired but can only be replaced, and it is not impossible.
The above three points are my experience of buying cheap cars and being pitted, hoping to help everyone
