The National Biathlon Center carries out the transition between the Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics, and the barrier-free guarantee shows humanistic care

As the only venue in the Ancient Poplars Group to undertake the task of competing in the Winter Paralympic Games, the National Biathlon Center will host the Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing and Paralympic Biathlon competitions during the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, resulting in a total of 38 gold medals. According to the work arrangement, the National Biathlon Center entered the transition period of the Winter Paralympic Games on February 20.

The conversion of the National Biathlon Centre is mainly divided into three phases. The first phase is the preparatory stage for the transition, which has been fully rolled out in advance of the Beijing Winter Olympics; the second phase is the key transition phase, which takes place from February 20 to 24; and the third phase is the full transition phase, which will be carried out from February 25 to March 3.

The work of the key transformation stage involves six aspects: personnel conversion, venue facility conversion, barrier-free facilities readiness, competition service readiness, image landscape and guidance sign conversion, and organizational operation and command system conversion, which are completed by the ancient poplar tree stadium group and the national biathlon center.

The National Biathlon Centre for winter paralympic conversion is underway

In terms of athlete competition guarantee, the track, range, athlete functional room and other work closely related to the competition is the focus of this conversion. According to Chen Guohui, venue and infrastructure manager of the National Biathlon Center, some of the winter Paralympic tracks are gentler than the Winter Olympic tracks, and during the winter Paralympic games, the winter Paralympic special track in the valley northwest of the venue will be used, and snow press operations will be carried out during the conversion.

Different from the 50-meter shooting distance of the Winter Olympic Biathlon, the shooting distance of the Paralympic biathlon is 10 meters, so the construction with the track is also the construction of the shooting target back wall, the construction of the Paralympic timing scoreboard and the wiring, image landscape layout and other conversion work.

Paralympic cross-country skiing and Paralympic biathlon athletes compete in the Standing, Sitting and Visually Impaired groups according to their disability. According to Liu Lili, the Integration and Coordination Manager of the National Biathlon Center for Paralympics, due to the relative concentration of sitting athletes participating in the venue, it is very critical to ensure the competition needs of this group.

"The National Biathlon Center has set up a 2.5-meter-wide, nearly 1,000-meter-long dedicated passage along the outer edge of the track, and after the sitting athletes with lower limb disabilities change their sitting posture skis, they can independently complete the whole process of warm-up, participation, waiting for results, post-race interviews and other full-process actions by the channel. During the transition, we will further level the passage to ensure safe, convenient and smooth passage for sitting athletes. Liu Lili said.

During the conversion period, the venue will add functional rooms such as wheelchairs, orthoses and prosthetic maintenance rooms, wheelchair storage rooms, and seated athletes' locker rooms to provide basic guarantee for sitting athletes to participate. In addition, the venue also specially printed a large-character anti-doping test glossary in Chinese and English to provide information barrier-free services for visually impaired athletes.

In addition to athletes, the National Biathlon Center will also provide barrier-free viewing services for other disabled customer groups in need, such as the barrier-free photography seats and media seats in the wide area of the stands, the barrier-free workstations in the media operation center of the venue to facilitate the work of disabled media reporters; and the braille version of the National Biathlon Center Introduction and Braille Touch Map in large characters at the entrance of the audience to facilitate the visually impaired audience to understand the venue information The Paralympic Family Lounge will provide a large Braille brochure in Chinese and English at the National Biathlon Centre for vips to gain insight into the venue and competition.

"Now, the venue team is racing against the clock to put the conversion to work. We know that the Winter Paralympic Games are a grand stage for the world's top Paralympic athletes to show their athletic skills and extraordinary talents, and the team is working day and night to build this stage. We hope that our work will contribute to the promotion of the Paralympic values of 'courage, perseverance, motivation and equality' and contribute to the construction of an inclusive society." Liu Lili said.
