Tesla defrost function problem, emergency recall of 26,000 vehicles?
According to the announcement issued by the State Administration of Market Regulation, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation because the defrosting effect of the windshield of the relevant vehicles was not up to standard, and there were potential safety hazards.

On February 18, China's State Administration for Market Regulation announced that Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. decided to recall some domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, totaling 26,047 vehicles.
The announcement reminds that before the vehicle recall repair, the user should drive the vehicle cautiously and contact the Tesla service center for software upgrades as soon as the recall begins.
It is said that the windshield defrost system of the vehicle in this recall is not up to standard, and there are potential safety hazards.
"Especially when the temperature outside the car is lower than minus 10 degrees Celsius, the windshield defrosting system cannot achieve the defrosting effect stipulated in the relevant national laws and regulations, and the decline of the defrosting function adversely affects the driver's vision, thereby increasing the possibility of the risk of collision when the vehicle is driving in cold weather." The announcement states.
According to the announcement, the above problems occur due to the slight movement of the vehicle's heat pump electronic expansion valve positioning, and the software closely related to this function (2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6 version) has no corrective function, which may cause the valve to be partially opened and the heat pump compressor to stop working, resulting in the failure of the heating function in the car. The defrost effect is not up to standard, which is its visual performance.
After the fermentation of the incident, there was public opinion that Tesla's large-scale recall of vehicles may be related to the Sanhua intelligent control expansion valve. The reporter of the Financial Associated Press contacted the relevant person in charge of Sanhua Intelligent Control, and his response said that the company has never declared itself a supplier of Tesla in public, and this matter has nothing to do with the company. According to the Securities Times, the software issues mentioned in the announcement do not involve related products with suppliers.
The announcement said that the recalled vehicles are some domestic electric vehicles produced between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022, including 12,003 Model 3 models and 14,044 Model Y models.

"Ghost Brake" was investigated
According to the state administration of market regulation website, this is the third time since December last year, Tesla recalled domestic electric vehicles.
Previously, on December 3, 2021, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some domestically produced Model Y electric vehicles, a total of 21,599 vehicles, mainly involving the issue of steering knuckles. On December 31, 2021, the company recalled some domestic Model 3 electric vehicles due to trunk cover problems, totaling 144208 vehicles. At the same time, some imported electric vehicles have been recalled due to the problem of the front trunk lock latch and the trunk lid.

There are reports that Tesla-related vehicles are not only exposed to problems in China.
On February 17, local time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it has begun to investigate Tesla's autopilot assist system, involving some Tesla Model 3 and Model Y models in 2021 and 2022, totaling 416,000 vehicles.
Previously, the agency received complaints that the autopilot assistance system Autopilot had a "ghost brake" phenomenon, that is, the brake was accidentally activated. When the user turns on the autopilot assist system of a Tesla vehicle, the vehicle will suddenly brake under some kind of non-braking situation, which is prone to rear-end accidents at high speed.
According to NHTSA, 354 related complaints have been received in the past nine months. While the complaint did not involve casualties, NHTSA has been aware of at least 33 crashes caused by Tesla's "autopilot" since 2016, which allegedly killed 11 people.
NHTSA said in the report that the Defect Investigation Office is already conducting a preliminary investigation into the above issues.

With the "ghost brake" incident being investigated, Tesla's stock price fell sharply.
On Feb. 17, Tesla's stock price fell 5.09 percent, wiping out $48.6 billion (about 307.6 billion yuan) in a single day and shrinking to $905.7 billion.
As of February 18, Tesla's market value continued to shrink to $885.7 billion, down 2.21% from the previous day.
According to reports, Tesla CEO Musk once said on the earnings call that Tesla deliveries will easily increase by more than 50% in 2022, and full self-driving will be achieved this year.
Although Tesla has a downward trend in market value recently, Tesla's development has continued to improve before, and the delivery volume has increased more.
For the full year of 2021, Tesla deliveries increased by 87 percent, setting a record for deliveries of about 936,200 vehicles. Among them, the Shanghai Gigafactory alone delivered 484,130 vehicles, an increase of 235% year-on-year, accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's annual total global deliveries, and single-handedly supported the "half of the sky" of the global market.
