IT House Reported Feb. 18 that Horizon Worlds, The Verge, the main social VR platform for Meta company Oculus Quest headsets, has grown tenfold since last December.

Chris Cox, Meta's chief product officer, said that since launching Horizon Worlds in the U.S. and Canada in early December last year, its monthly active users have expanded to 300,000 people. A company spokesperson confirmed that this data includes Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, a standalone live event VR application.

IT House learned that Horizon Worlds was first launched in 2019, then named Facebook Horizon, and is the social platform of Oculus. Users can create their own virtual busts and can build their own custom worlds.

Earlier this week, Meta announced that it had built 10,000 virtual worlds so far, and its Facebook creator group numbered more than 20,000.

The community is still growing solidly, but the need for Oculus Quest devices has prevented the number of users from growing by leaps and bounds. Meta CEO Zuckerberg has previously said that Meta plans to bring Horizon Worlds to mobile phones later in 2022 to expand its user base.
