Meta's next-generation VR headset Project Cambria is unofficial

Recently, YouTube blogger SadlyItsBradley said that he has seen real photos of Meta's next-generation mixed reality headset Project Cambria production model. Although he did not share the source photos, he worked with 3D modelers to reconstruct what he saw at the time with his memories.

It should be noted that Bradley said that he could not disclose the relevant real picture, so he chose to revert the style of the rendered headset through 3D modeling. So, this is not an official rendering. In addition, the official has long provided a blurred official rendering of Cambria.

Bradley is an XR hardware analyst who has put a lot of work into mining and tracking rumors or information related to upcoming VR hardware. More recently, he claimed that Project Cambria has reached the "DVT" stage, which means it is almost ready for production.

In the video, Bradley talks about the array of cameras on the headset and the four sensors hidden under the cover. According to him, there are also two cameras and two non-camera sensors, which are theoretically some kind of depth sensor. In terms of head wear, compared to the Quest 2, Cambria eliminated the over-the-top headband, added a front guard, and widened and thickened the back of the head pad in this way to adjust the counterweight and achieve head fixation.

As Lynch's published renderings show, Project Cambria has made considerable optimizations in terms of shape parameters. It can be seen that the front end of the headset is flatter than the Quest 2, and the black body is quite technological and stylish. If rendered accurately, it suggests that Cambria may move to new optical schemes, such as Pancake.

Notably, some of the information in Bradley's video, or speculation, was denied by Meta last year. At the time, Meta noted that Cambria would include high-resolution color See-Through, new optics, eyes, and handles for face tracking, untracement rings (which may be onboard Inside-Out). At the time, Meta also said that Cambria would launch in 2022, but the release date or price was not announced.
