On February 16, Hui Haiping, the inheritor of Weinan paper-cutting intangible culture, was selected by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism as a cultural gift for the Shaanxi Winter Olympics to be sent to the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Hui Haiping, male, employee of The Maintenance Branch of Shaanxi Chemical Company, a native of Huazhou District, Weinan City, and a representative inheritor of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Influenced by his grandmother since childhood, he developed a strong interest and love for paper-cutting, laying the foundation for paper-cutting art and creation. Later, he studied paper-cutting with Mr. Lei Zhicheng and was recommended to study paper-cutting art at Shaanxi Normal University. In 2018, he was rated as the representative inheritor of Weinan Paper-cutting Intangible Cultural Heritage, the executive director of Weinan Paper-cutting Society, the member of the Paper-cutting Art Committee of the Chinese Culture Promotion Association, and the member of Shaanxi Folk Artists Association.
At the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympics held in Beijing in 2022, when he saw the mascot ice piers and snow rongrong, he was moved by their super cute images, resulting in the use of paper-cutting art to express them, one to promote the traditional culture of intangible cultural heritage with the help of the Olympic Games, and the other to use his own artistic creation to cheer for the Olympic athletes, thus creating this pair of vivid ice piers and snow rongrong.
Hui Haiping's "Ice Pier Snow Rongrong" paper-cut work uses the traditional paper-cutting line connection technique to partially exaggerate, which greatly maintains the cartoon image of "Ice Pier Snow Rongrong" while integrating into the traditional folk culture of Huazhou District.
There are "Beijing", "Winter Olympics", "Snowflakes" and other Winter Olympic elements in the works, as well as folk elements such as "2022 Year of the Tiger" and "Plum Blossom Five Blessings", the whole work not only presents the cuteness of "ice pier snow melting", but also is full of the strong local atmosphere of Huazhou traditional culture, implying the author's good wishes for the prosperity of the motherland.
It is understood that Hui Haiping has been deeply influenced by his grandmother since childhood, and after years of paper-cutting creation practice, his works have both profound folk cultural heritage and the artistry of modern craft paper-cutting, which is deeply loved by all walks of life.
