Thailand network reported that according to Thai media news, a review of Thai marriage registration and divorce registration statistics from 2017 to 2021 found that during the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the two data declined at the same time.
In 2021, 240,979 couples registered marriages in Thailand, an 11% decrease from 2020, and the number of marriages in Thailand in 2020 was also 17% lower than in 2019. At the same time, the number of divorces in Thailand has also decreased since 2020.
Details of the 2017-2021 Thai Marriage Report are as follows:

Although marriage registration and divorce registration are in line with the increase and decrease, the divorce rate is in fact on the rise, and the divorce rate in Thailand in 2017-2021 is detailed below:
The divorce rate in 2017 was 40.88%;
The divorce rate in 2018 was 41.33%;
The divorce rate in 2019 was 39.07%;
The divorce rate in 2020 was 44.59%;
The divorce rate in 2021 was 46.04%.
A number of institutions have conducted a survey on the causes of divorce and found that the main reasons for the breakdown of marriages during the epidemic period are: economic pressure between husband and wife, unemployment, and excessive time spent together during the work from home, resulting in mutual dislike.
In the long run, the continued decline in Thailand's birth rate and the continued increase in the elderly population will lead to changes in the "demographic structure". Projections show that 12 million people over the age of 60 in Thailand will reach 2020 and 20.42 million by 2040. At the same time, the working-age population (15-59 years old) is on a decreasing trend, with the forecast to decrease from 43.26 million in 2020 to 36.5 million in 2040.
It is also understood that the top 3 provinces with the largest number of marriages and divorces in Thailand in 2021 are Bangkok, ChonBuri and Nakhon Ratchasima.
