Suggestions on further expanding the international influence of Dunhuang culture and enhancing overseas dissemination

Jiuquan Municipal CPPCC reflects that the Mogao Grottoes is the world's oldest, longest-lasting and largest Buddhist art treasure cave, it began to be excavated from the late Sixteen Kingdoms period, until the end of the Yuan Dynasty in the fourteenth century, lasted 1,000 years, ten consecutive dynasties, with 45,000 square meters of murals, 2,400 painted sculptures, more than 50,000 pieces of silk paintings, so it is also the world's largest museum, art museum, calligraphy museum, library, music and dance hall. Dunhuang culture has the innate advantage of carrying out dialogue and exchanges with the world's major civilizations on an equal footing, which is unique in the country. We must make full use of this great advantage and take the initiative to engage in dialogue with the major civilizations of the world.

In 2019, the documentary "Dialogue between Mogao Caves and Angkor Wat" produced by the Jiuquan Documentary Team is a successful example. This is the first documentary on the theme of dialogue of Asian civilizations in China, so that the world's largest Buddhist art treasure Caves Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes and the world's largest temple Cambodia Angkor Wat together to a millennium covenant, carried out a dialogue of civilizations beyond time and space, vividly interpreted the "Belt and Road" initiative, the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind the spiritual foundation and cultural connotation.

Starting from the successful example of "Dialogue between Mogao Caves and Angkor Wat", it is necessary to further expand the international influence of Chinese culture around the "Belt and Road" bridgehead and the Platform of Dunhuang International Cultural Fair, enhance the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture, and continue to explore new models of external communication.

To this end, it is recommended to:

I. Extend and expand the series of documentaries and related art exchange exhibitions on dialogue between Dunhuang and the major civilizations of the world, and form a new IP for dialogue among civilizations. Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes record the collision and exchange of Eastern and Western civilizations, record the process of the gradual transformation and Sinicization of Buddhist culture, and record the historical features of the military, political, cultural and life of the countries and ethnic groups on the Silk Road in the Middle Ages. Dunhuang culture is eclectic, inclusive, and good and upright, reflecting the equality between different types of cultures, and the dissemination and exchange of Dunhuang culture will provide a great reference for the peaceful coexistence between different civilizations of mankind.

After "Dialogue between Mogao Grottoes and Angkor Wat" has been highly recognized by the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Administration of Foreign Languages and other departments, it can continue to launch dialogue documentaries such as "Mogao Grottoes and Ajiantuo", "Mogao Grottoes and Louvre", "Dunhuang and London", "Dunhuang and East Palace", "Dunhuang and Persia", "Mogao Grottoes and Horone Temple", "Dunhuang and Harvard", etc., presenting the historical link between Dunhuang culture and the four major civilizations in the form of images, and using audio-visual methods can break the language barrier, so that audiences around the world, regardless of ethnicity, color and culture, All can experience the charm of elegant, profound, broad and tolerant Chinese culture, so as to help Chinese culture go global. At the same time, exchange exhibitions on fine arts, photography, costume design, decoration, etc. on the theme of art dialogue will be carried out with the cultural institutions of the above-mentioned countries.

Second, launched a large-scale documentary "To the World to Find Dunhuang". In June 1900, The Taoist monk Wang Yuanzhen of dunhuang Mogao Cave discovered the Tibetan Scripture Cave, and more than 50,000 scripture scrolls, documents and silk paintings from the Medieval Period that had been sealed for more than 800 years were re-revealed. The documents unearthed from the Tibetan Scripture Cave start from the Three Kingdoms of Eastern Wu, through the Two Jin Dynasties, The Northern Wei, the Western Wei, the Sui, the Tang, and the Five Dynasties, down to the Northern Song Dynasty, which lasted more than 700 years, involving politics, economy, military, transportation, water conservancy, geography, astronomy, calendar, literature, medicine, education, music, dance, mathematics, contracts, account books, household registration, calligraphy, painting, etc., spanning 700 years of time and space, including dozens of disciplines, all of which are extremely rare original materials in traditional documents. In addition to the Chinese language, there are also turkic, Tubo, Uighur, Western Xia, Sogdian, Sanskrit, Tocharian, Hebrew and other ancient ethnic scripts, which are voluminous and valuable, and are known as one of the four major archaeological discoveries in China in the 20th century.

Because the Dunhuang testament is scattered all over the world, it is difficult for any collection institution to exhaust the essence of the cultural relics of the Cave, and it is difficult for anyone to get a glimpse of the whole picture of the Cave, which not only causes great difficulties for the study of Dunhuang Studies, but also makes the understanding of the Dunhuang Testament a blind person touching the elephant. Previous large-scale TV documentaries such as "Dunhuang" directed by Zhou Bing, "Dunhuang Calligraphy" directed by Qin Chuan and An Qiu, "Dunhuang Trick Lotte", "Dunhuang Painting School" and so on also have parts involving the cultural relics of Dunhuang's Tibetan Scripture Cave, but they are all partial or fragmentary introductions, and there is no film and television program that comprehensively and systematically displays Dunhuang's overseas diaspora cultural relics. 10 years ago, Jiuquan documentary team Qin Chuan, Director An Qiu planned 6 episodes of the documentary "To the World to Find Dunhuang", trying to fill this gap, they planned to go to 44 collection institutions in 12 countries and regions to conduct dragnet interviews and shooting, so that the scattered cultural relics of the Tibetan Scripture Cave around the world "go home" in the form of video, so that the audience can see the distribution of tibetan cave cultural relics in the world through a documentary, understand the research results of Dunhuang studies and the latest progress of Chinese and foreign scholars in the past hundred years, and obtain complete audiovisual cognition. It aims to promote the cultural construction of the "Belt and Road" and explain the theme of the times that Dunhuang cultural relics are the cultural heritage shared by all mankind. The selection of the topic has the innate advantage of producing a phenomenon-level documentary with first-class quality and having a significant impact at home and abroad, but because of the huge investment in this film, it has not been able to set up a project for shooting. It is recommended that the project be established at an early date, and strive for national support to fulfill this century-old wish, which will have the greatest role in promoting China's excellent traditional culture, promoting cultural exchanges between China and the West, demonstrating the soft power of Chinese culture to the world, and expanding the popularity and influence of Chinese culture.

Third, use immersive digital display technology to explore the changes in the way Dunhuang art exhibitions are displayed in the post-epidemic era. In August 2021, the "World First Exhibition of Encounter Dunhuang Light and Shadow Art Exhibition" opened in Beijing. With more than 200 Dunhuang mural works repainted by Chang Shana, Bao Ying and other artists, the exhibition uses 48 high-definition projections in a display space with a height of 12 meters and a total area of more than 1500 square meters with 3D light carving digital technology, creating a fully immersive world of light and shadow, reproducing the artistic charm of Dunhuang Grottoes culture, leading the audience into the time and space tunnel of light and shadow, shuttling between the past and the present, allowing traditional culture and modern civilization to dialogue in the air at the moment, causing a huge sensation in Beijing. People have found that such a large-scale light and shadow art exhibition before is more of a Western oil painting theme, such as the Van Gogh Art Exhibition, leonardo da Vinci Light and Shadow Art Exhibition, etc., such a large-scale performance of Chinese Dunhuang art is the first time. Dunhuang culture is a new business card for China to spread to the outside world, but the vast majority of consumers, audiences, and foreign consumers cannot drive to the depths of the desert at any time to see beautiful performances and on-site punch cards. It is recommended to make full use of the Internet, science and technology and other elements, with the means and forms that young people like to hear and lead the international trend, concentrate on creative forces, and create more immersive light and shadow art exhibitions like "Meet Dunhuang", so that audiences from all over the world can enter Dunhuang and feel the charm of Chinese culture. At the same time, we should actively let global audiences understand Dunhuang culture and promote Chinese culture to go global through global tour exhibitions and Internet cloud exhibitions.
