At 23:00 on the evening of February 11, the official statement of the Gel APP denied obtaining user privacy information, and said: "After investigation, this incident is an organized and planned slander of competitors against the 'Addiction' APP, and Beijing Yishu Entertainment Co., Ltd. has collected relevant evidence and reported to the police, while retaining the right to follow up on the law", and then posted a receipt for the police case.
Just after the official statement of the Gel APP, the product manager of the Gel app also posted a long Weibo post saying that he had never read and leaked any personal information without authorization.
In addition to being questioned about obtaining user privacy information, the Gel APP has also fallen into the controversy of plagiarism. Red Star Capital Bureau noted that on February 11, the accessories brand "THE JINGINGLAB" posted on Weibo "Under the popularity of meta-universe APP, how should the designer's copyright come from?" He questioned one of Gel's avatar accessories, arguing that Gel had copied his original work, "Flower Pack".
Red Star Capital Bureau learned that the Gel APP was developed by Beijing Little Bit NetJu Information Technology Co., Ltd., the parent company of "One Point Information". It is positioned as a "close friend image social APP", focusing on acquaintance social networking, keywords include meta-universe, AI face pinching, gamification social and so on.
It is worth noting that the gel APP mentioned in the application description that "here, there is no grouping, no blocking, no three days to see", "How long have you not sent a circle of friends?" And other words, it seems to be intentional to benchmark the social head applications of acquaintances WeChat and QQ.
On February 10, Gel surpassed Apps such as WeChat, Douyin, and QQ to top the Apple App Store free APP list.
