Tesla after the Spring Festival is obviously very busy. The latest hot topic is the exposure of domestic models to reduce the number of allocations.

Recently, it was reported that due to the shortage of chip supply chains, Tesla has reduced the allocation of domestic Model 3 and Model Y, removing one of the two electronic control units in the bogie.

Domestic Tesla was exposed to reduce allocation? Customer service: complies with regulations

Some media contacted Tesla China's official customer service in this regard, and the other party said: "Every vehicle we leave the factory must comply with national regulations." ”

Well...... There seems to be nothing wrong with this explanation.

Interestingly, however, Tesla's domestic customers did not receive official notifications, and even the news was first reported by the US Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC). Moreover, Tesla engineers and employees believe that the reduced electronic control unit is a superfluous component. The reduction will not affect the use of most vehicles, so there is no need to notify customers at this stage.

Why at this stage? Because if the new owner chooses the advanced autopilot assist system when purchasing the car, it is necessary to contact the Tesla service center afterwards to modify its bogie. Moreover, if Tesla launches L3 level automatic driving, this batch of reduced models also needs to be reloaded.

The so-called non-impact on the use of most vehicles is aimed at models that are currently equipped with L2 level autonomous driving assistance systems, namely Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. In Tesla's view, such models do not need to use a dual-control steering system.

Precisely in the Chinese market, only more than 1% of customers choose FSD when ordering a car. It is said that most Tesla cars equipped with a single electronic control unit were originally aimed at Chinese customers.

According to cnBC's report, tens of thousands of adjusted vehicles have entered the markets of China, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany and other parts of Europe. There is no news yet whether there will be a reduction in the allocation of cars manufactured in or shipped to the United States.

As for why Tesla reduced allocation, the main reason is the shortage of chips, semiconductor shortages, and the reduction can also save costs for Tesla in the short term, and it also meets national regulations.

Moreover, in May last year, Tesla canceled the front seat waist support on the Model 3 and Model Y models without informing users; in November last year, Tesla canceled the CENTRAL CONTROL and rear USB interfaces without informing consumers, reserved only holes, and also canceled the wireless charging function of mobile phones.

Doing the same kind of thing, Tesla is obviously very experienced.

Not only that, but for another type of thing, Tesla has also done a very smooth job, that is, issuing a safety recall.

On February 3, US time, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued an announcement that Tesla is conducting safety recalls on more than 817,000 vehicles, and the relevant batch of vehicle seat belts indicates that there is a problem. What is the concept of 817,000 vehicles? That's equivalent to more than 87% of its full-year 2021 sales.

However, at the end of last month, Tesla issued a recall at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 53,822 vehicles with "fully autonomous driving" were officially recalled due to the risk of collision with the "rolling stop" function.

The so-called "rolling stop", if the system does not detect other vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists, the "rolling parking" function allows the car to pass through the intersection at a speed of about 9km/h. Of course, Tesla says the feature is only activated at intersections with sufficient visibility and speed limits of no more than 48km/h. Although the speed is not fast, the US agency believes that it may not be able to stop.

In addition to the US market, recalls in the Chinese market are also repeated. In early December and late December last year, Tesla issued two recall announcements, and about 220,000 domestic and imported models were recalled.

I have to admit that in the pure electric vehicle market, Tesla is indeed a pioneer and leader, but there are not a few customers who are hurt by it.
