On 12 December 1995, the 50th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing Turkmenistan as a permanently neutral country. Earlier this month, during talks in Beijing, the two sides agreed on the construction of a fourth natural gas pipeline to China and China's investment in the development of Turkmenistan's "Galkynysh" natural gas field.
