About the customers and their lifestyles?

Alex Liu (AL): The client is a pair of young legal professionals who both love to travel. When we first met them, they were expecting their first child and needed their new home to be spacious and child-friendly.

What is a brief introduction to your project?

Jay Liu (JL): The couple wanted to incorporate some of the elements they liked where they had been while traveling, but they gave us complete control over the overall interior design direction.

What is unique about the building and location?

JL: This 145 m2 apartment sits on the top floor of a four-storey building surrounded by lush greenery. The high ceilings and the huge arc above the living room windows are unique to this apartment and set it apart from other units.

How to deal with this project -

What design references are you trying to incorporate into the space?

AL: As a big believer in Zen buddhism and the philosophy of silence, the client chose a lighter color palette for the apartment. The main highlight of the space is how the living area and study are connected to each other. We don't think it's ideal to separate them into separate enclosed rooms and disconnect these areas completely. Instead, to maintain a degree of privacy, we built a full-height entrance made of wooden revolving door panels — which is also a design feature — to establish a relationship between the two spaces.

Clients also allow us to curate specific brands of furniture that suit their lifestyle and design narrative.

Please tell us about some of the material options for the space.

JL: We use natural ash wood and natural marble as the main materials of the space.

Do you have a favorite element or design detail?

JL: A common theme for most of our projects, such as greenhouses, is portals. Here we inserted one in the living room, and due to the height of the ceiling, we were able to choose a tall design that highlights the volume of the space. These are revolving door panels that span the entire width of the living area. At the other end of the space there is also a hidden entrance section that leads to the guest bathroom.
